This sure is going to take a lot of fun out of podcasts and the CF Tipoff Party! Coach Matt was always the best at those.

Re: Coach Matt A

Kind of weakens Blum's point that Matt A was the lead recruiter for White, Kane and McKay...

I thought you guys were pals? :ptongue:

We are, we just disagree on everything!

I'm actually giving Matt A credit for that though. He brought them in, Fred turned them into great players for a great program, and now when kids leave they contact ISU. 3-4 years ago we needed someone like Matt to go find the transfers. Now I think we need a guy that brings in top HS talent as the transfers are easier gets for us. Just my opinion of course.

Re: Coach Matt A

Watching him twiddle his thumbs on the sidelines and during timeouts was embarrassing. He was a recruiter, that's all. Never an X and O's guy. He could bring them to campus, and be there friend, but couldn't begin to know how to coach anything.

even if this was the case and he did no coaching (which I doubt). Recruiting is s very, very valuable service.

Best of luck to him. Had to be hard to leave Fred, but that's his dream college job.

Definatly hurts us big time for Diallo. Probably Kansas or Kentucky now. Bringing in an assistant who is great on defense and big men would be nice though, and obviously recruiting.

Re: Coach Matt A

This incredibly frustrating. Seeing Matt A, Clayton Custer, Daniel Stensland, Kourtlin Jackson all quit on Iowa State.

I hope Fred Hoiberg isn't next.

Sad to see Matt hightail it out of Iowa, but hopefully we can get someone of his caliber if not better. Anyway bye-bye Diallo.

Re: Coach Matt A

From the Diallo thread....thought it was worth reposting:

Here's a quote from Matt A in an interview with the Iowa State Daily prior to this year:

Here's the link: http://isdhoops.com/iowa-state-of-mind.html

Anyone who has enlisted understands that the first, greatest personal ability of the great recruiter is the ability to make someone believe you even when it couldn't be further from the truth.

If you are implying any negative connotations when you say that Stensland, Jackson and Custer "quit on Iowa State", I really don't know what to tell you. Two of them chose to be student-athletes here and work their tails off for nothing in return, other than the chance to be a Cyclone. The other one was probably told what his prospects for playing time were and chose that he wants to go elsewhere. If you fault any of them for their decisions, please log off now.

Spot on and he did the same thing in practice when he made it. So he made some contacts, big deal. Fred closes the deal.

I'm sure the players love the guy. Who played any level of ball and didn't care for the student manager. I'm sure he's a great guy, and I'm done banging on the guy, but it's a good day for ISU basketball as they move into the next tier of top level programs.

I'm out. Go Clones.

I am guessing Kansas or SJU. All ways getting hit in the nuts.

SLOW DOWN...............Cheick has been here twice, he knows the system Fred is going to run. He knows the experienced team he would get to play with. I don't think the Cheick saga is over, Fred is smart enough to be ahead of everything.

Well, shoot. Bad timing. I am sure that Fred encouraged him to follow his dreams, but this one could really screw up a large investment we made in recruiting Diallo. Who knows, he may not have come here anyway, and this may not hurt our chances a bit, but I will be pretty irritated if he ends up at St Johns.

I would be shocked if he came to ISU now..
