Congrats to Matt Abdelmassih. Classy guy, respresented Iowa State well, did a great job while he was here.

I wish him nothing but good luck as he moves forward with his career.

Well said. I add my congratulations to him.

P.S. Taking your dream job under amazing circumstances like this doesn't make me question his commitment to Iowa State. The stars just aligned for him. Wish him the best.

I say thanks to Matt for working hard for ISU during the FH era. The great thing is he and ISU are parting on good terms. It means we have a contact out east that is well placed. SJU will not be able to sign all of the east coast transfers and recruits. Its always good to have friends that are well-placed. I don't think Matt A. will turn a blind eye to his friend Fred H. that gave him his start. Some things although not ideal, are not as bad as they first appear.

Yah, based on where each program is right now I don't think we want SJU's scraps.

Re: Coach Matt A

I hope they kept his old position open for him because that's about all he is equipped to do. Anybody will be a upgrade and hopefully it's TJ. Why don't you or Chris with all your connections go ask anybody close to the program, currently or in the past what value this guy added other then being from the East coast. Fred liked the guy and took him along. Feel free to post your answers here or PM me. I all ready know the answer.

This was a good day for ISU basketball.

Please. I hope you are joking or sick. This is the same guy who has been universally praised, both on this board and by Fred himself for the last 5 years. You know how hard it is to recruit high school kids at the level he was, especially to a place like Ames?

I really hope I don't see us turning on Matt-he was a big part of our rebuilding, not to mention a GREAT guy.

Yea, I understand that. I'm just saying that if he does indeed leave, he's unhitching his wagon from a rising star and hooking up to a HUGE unknown. Things may work out just fine, but it could also be very risky career move.

I'm just looking at it in terms of career advancement. At this time there is much more security and upside at ISU. It may be a risk he's willing to take, which is fine, but it's still a risk.

Fred Hoiberg has proven he's a great coach. Chris Mullin is an NBA Hall of Famer? Do you not see how having worked under those two coaches gives you a great set of credentials? Plus the job is your dream job? It's a no-brainer, and anyone who didn't see that definitely had the cardinal-colored blinders on.

Re: Coach Matt A

I agree with this 99% of the time. Grayer would be the 1% just because of Bridges. There is no chance Fizer comes here and I don't know why anyone would want him

Agreed on this point. I hate when fans (and it isn't just ISU) only think of the former player/other direct connection pool as potential candidates. There's a big world out there.

As for Grayer, I have no idea what his qualifications are or what he has been doing. But I don't think I would hire him simply because of a connection to one recruit. Particularly when that recruit may be a pretty strong lean to Michigan State?

Every program needs a guy like Matt, and he made following the program more fun because he was a great interview. He will be missed but he's an assistant coach. We've been through this before. We've been "screwed" before when Lutz, Otz, Sadler, etc all left. We've ended up improving or a dang good team each year.

Wish him the best and thank him for his time at ISU.

Cycopath beat you to it.

When you have such a high turn over year after year and your primary recruiter ditch the program, you know you are in trouble. There is no other way to put it. Ames just isn't an attractive place to live or work for anyone pass the age of 24 (unless if you have ties with the town).

I know...the truth hurts.
