In before swarthmore makes a reference to JP hiring Otz. EDIT: Not quick enough.

I didn't see LeVelle Moton's interview coming.

With multiple candidates being interviewed, at least one of them had to be non-white.

And if JP/Leath are going to pay a new coach in the $3M/yr range, then Chris Mack should be at the top of that list. Not Dixon, Wright, Brey or A.Miller. He was talking to Cal last year and I'm hoping he is talking to ISU this year.

I'd say $600,000/$650,000 tops.

You can't hand the keys to a top 10 team and have your coach make less than half of the next lowest paid coach in the B12.

That just says you're less serious about winning than you are saving pennies. Even if it's TJ that would pretty much mean we're a laughing stock.

Keith Murphy was just gushing over Otz on Soundoff. Seeing similar things from a lot of local media, I just don't get it.

Selling the narative of the likely man in charge.

He's a likable guy, so the media bends over backward for him.

Hopefully being likable translates to coaching success.

He's familiar to the media, someone they've worked with and heard good things about. It's not difficult to understand and it doesn't mean that there's some sort of conspiracy.

Well, if the shoe fits.

It is just a different buisness model. Cheap HC, expensive staff. TJ doesn't have a resume in comparison to other Big 12 coaches, so why would his pay be anything but obscenely low? Grab an assistant with HC experience for near equal pay, plus great recruiters.

He's not. Chris Mack has no interest in the ISU job.

Count me in. He couldn't get the Drake job, but now all of a sudden he's fit for the ISU job after ISU goes to 4 straight NCAA tournaments?

It may help if you are respected by the players, but nope. It doesn't translate to coaching success. You have to actually know what you're doing for that to happen, usually.

This is why Gregg Marshall is best case scenario for us. He is kind of a jerk to the media, but the man gets results and his kids bust their azzes off for him. From what I hear Fred is a good guy, but I've also seen a lot of good guys be huge flops as coaches as well. I think the media gave Fred a little too much credit because he was a good guy. Not to say he was a bad coach, but I think they care more about being likable than winning games. This isn't a tea party where everybody needs to get along. We need a winner.
