Pardon my ignorance, but can somebody tell me if a more expensive coffee maker (drip) is better than a cheap one? Don’t they just both put hot water over the coffee and drip into the carafe? Like will a $100 coffee maker have better tasting coffee than my $20 coffee maker, while using the same coffee?
What are the features that make it more expensive? Im willing to upgrade if it makes a difference, but I’m not sold on the price difference for a simple drip machine.
Yes. More consistent brew temperature/time.

This article does a good job explaining some of the nuances.

I have an ancient Mr. Coffee with a glass lined thermal carafe. I use Folgers Black Silk at home. I've always liked coffee but since the tongue cancer coffee tastes absolutely incredible. Even the coffee at the office tastes amazing.

An older model of this brewer

Grinder:

Don't t forget some air tight containers

And when I want high end bean with flavor I'll go and order some:

There even do a coffee club where they'll ship you a bag a month.

For my Moccamaster, it is one of the few brewers that get the water to recommended brew temperature almost immediately. It functions similarly to a traditional pourover and makes excellent coffee. It usually places in the top one or two of most brewer reviews.

I only drink black coffee at home, a $20 Mr Coffee machine and Amazon Fresh Dark Roast beans do the trick for me.

Fresh roasted beans, a burr grinder, and a coffee machine that gets the water hot enough. You have those and you'll have great coffee. Hot enough water is really key. Used fresh burr ground beans in an older Mr Coffee while vacation and it was not good quality. Just not hot enough to get the flavor out.

Was just about to inquire if any had a really premium setup. I have visions of a nice espresso machine and me enjoying it after every dinner. Maybe when I’m older. The Cuban place I eat at just automatically serves espresso after the meal unless you say you don’t want it.

My cliff notes version from my research is if you want lattes those automatic machines like Phillips & Jura are fine. But if you want espresso (stand alone, no “mixers”) like above you want a “semi auto” like in my picture. Also, The grinder is the most important component, absolutely cannot skimp on it.

This is my setup. I brew Zanzibar’s French Roast ground at the 2nd finest grind level on the Capresso at 209 degrees Fahrenheit. Usually get a great crema, but since we live nearby and I’m retired and have the time, I might start buying half pound bags to have fresher beans.

Most recent years (but not 2023) they’ve had Jamaican Blue Mountain around Christmastime. Remembering other pleasures in other times, the Blue Mountain is a step up like sensimelia or Thai stick was 50 years ago when I had that habit (if you know what I mean).
