Whether it is Juri or Ross or Jessan, we need someone more than 205 pounds who can play inside. Or we will get clobbered.

I don't mind being picked to finish last in the conference. There's nothing better as a new coach coming in than low expectations. He finishes 0.500 next year and it's considered a successful season.

I think it makes sense for an outsider to pick us to do so bad, heck I probably would have in his shoes as well. We have almost a completely different team and character to our play, including a new coaching staff.

I don't see us being below .500 and could actually see us doing suprisingly well if we learn to play together early on. I don't see anybody on the team that is selfish or a ball hog and everybody seems to be coming together incredibly early on. I think they are playing and practicing like they have something to prove and that can take us a long ways.

I guess I just don't pick us to be lower than 8th in the conference at the absolute worst case scenario. We will have some growing pains but look at the talent we had last year and where that got us:)

I pick us to be probably around 5th-8th depending on some of the younger teams in the conference and how well they play early on.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ISUFan22 @ 06-28-06 12:00 pm) [post=5915]Quoted post[/post]</div><div class='quotemain'> I keep seeing this Juri 3-point shooting bashing and have to wonder...

Could it be Juri has been coached to shoot threes at the same rate notches are made on Ron Jeremy's bedpost?

If Juri was told "don't shoot the three" I would think he'd listen. If not, he knows he'd get screamed at and/or benched. Now if he was told not to shoot it and did it anyways...shame on him - yet I doubt it.

It's not like he was told "don't ever get beat on the baseline" and did. While he does have a lot of control over that, there are players that will beat him.

But this is shooting a 3 - something Juri can completely control. And I doubt he'd go against the advice of a coach.

Just had to put that thought out there...

It is not just a matter of him shooting the three, it is the fact that he is 6'10" or there about and he is not in position to rebound or do anything in the lane at all. I'm sorry, but I doubt he hasn't figured out that players his height play a position differently than he does.

Mike Smith averaged in 34 games last year 5 points, 4 boards, 0.3 block shots, 1 assist. Hope he weighs more than 205. We need a hole plugger.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(melt @ 06-28-06 8:51 am) [post=5887]Quoted post[/post]</div><div class='quotemain'> Even with all the new people coming in, I can't see ISU finishing behind Colorado, Nebraska, or Kansas State. I'd be upset if ISU finished any worse than 8th in the conference, and I think we have the talent to finish 6th. [/b][/quote]

More likely we're finishing close to Mizzou, OU, and Colorado in the bottom third. Mizzou has absolutely no talent, OU lost 3 key players (Gray, Bookout, Everett) and had their recruiting class ditch after Sampson left, and Colorado has Roby and nothing else.

Nebraska is returning a solid core of players, has a solid recruiting class, and beat us one out of two last year. And that was with Stinson, Blalock and Taggert. And as much as we make fun of Maric actually thinking he can go pro, we still don't have a player who can play man-to-man against him. He'll eat up Marsden or Hubalek, and i don't think the Johnson twins will be much help either.

Same with Kansas State, who is returning (assuming Cartier Martin weasels his way out of the indefinite suspension) their top two in Cartier and Hoskins. This team wasn't a great shooting team, but they had one of the best defenses in the Big 12, and with Huggins, will probably be better prepared offensively this year than any year under the Wooldridge regime. We split with them when we had veteran leaders, I see us having a hard time against this team next year (unless Martin doesn't return).

I think the Cyclones have great two-years-from-now potential, but with our youth and relative adjustment period, i think we will have a tough time to get out of the bottom third next year. I see us finishing tied with OU, ahead of Missouri and Colorado in the bottom third. Hope i'm wrong...
