I hear lots about Colvin and Smith, but have seen neither play. Will someone in the know compare and contrast their games, and describe what they would bring to the current roster? I posted in another thread that I early on heard lots about Smith's offense, but now hear more about his defensive skills.

I would be happy with either one...Both scorers...I can't give you much more because I have not seen them in person. There was an article saying Colvin may wait until the late signing period...I heard he will sign in the early period. I'll work on more details this weekend:wink:

Kg clone, ? about another recruit

what is the status on laron dendy. i know he was here for a visit. does he have an offer or is the staff pretty much decided on one of the two chicago guards. Also, why are they wanting another guard on the roster instead of a big? looks to me like we are already set for awhile in the backcourt

Bigs...really depends on Brackins. Through 2010 we should have Brackins,LA,Mann,Hamilton,Dykstra...Kelm? I would look more at the 2011 class for more bigs. Obviously, if we find one we can't turn down, we will take him. I'll see what I can find out about Laron Dendy. Having plenty of guards that know what Mac is trying to do is priceless.

Do the coaches think Brackins will be here until 2010? I would think they would be recruiting a big hard this year so we had one in the system and ready to go by 2010 considering 09' might be Craigs last year.

I would also guess 09 is the last one for Brackins...Staff is always recruiting...most times it's not black and white whether or not we take somebody. A lot of things come into play...current players, scholly situation, who are we losing, where are our weaknesses....They will be recruiting bigs, but offers will likely be on a conditional basis.

KG, care to elaborate on the "conditional basis" comment?

A simpler example would be like if we wanted recruit A over recruit B but recruit A wanted to go through a long recruiting process...AKA(HB) We can't stick all our eggs in one basket...So while recruit A is weighing his options...The staff continues to talk to recruit B and let him know the situation(recruit B you have a scholarship if). That's about a simple as I can make it...If you ever get a chance to sit in on one of these meets; I would encourage one to do so...It gets pretty entertaining listening to every scenerio that could play out depending on who decides to do what.

Hope that helps...

Thanks. I appreciate it. Great sales pitch...We want you IF the other player doesn't want us first. We think you are the best second option available.

Kind of like getting a silver medal instead of gold. We like you a lot, but, you are not gold, only silver. They should do ratings like that - gold, silver, bronze - and get rid of stars. Just a fun thought on this voting day.

I'm guessing the kids that would ACCEPT that kind of deal are nowhere near silver medals though...

It's something that developes over time...That's why the relationship is so important. It's not a perfect world; you can't protect everybody's feelings.

Any thought on where we stand with either? Colvin had a better experience than expected in Ames, but stated he doesn't want to be "in the sticks". At one time, it sounded like Minnesota was in deep on Smith, but he didn't commit and I believe they have since signed another PG instead.

Marquette is the biggest competition for both...IMO. Just by the way my questions were answered about Colvin, I think we have a good shot...But just speculation. Still recruiting Smith, but I have not heard anything lately.

thanks KG. You are closing in on 1,000 posts.

Sure quiet on this topic. Does that meaning things have cooled off, or heated up and we are so close to signing everyone is holding their breath?

Neither really.

After originally saying that he was going to commit in the early period, Colvin now appears to be hedging and may not announce until the Spring period. More schools, like UConn, are getting involved and he appears willing to extend the process and wait for bigger names to call.

As for Smith, Washington State just got involved, and more schools are calling every day, so there's a chance he'll wait until the spring as well.

That was a depressing article...first it basically said our recruiting class sucks and then said Colvin is one of these classic big city recruits with "handlers"....ugh. I hope there wrong I guess.

I don't see where it says our recruiting class sucks. In fact, there is barely any mention of ISU except that we are in the mix.

I don't like the handler part either. I really hate baggage. I don't want another Wesley J on our hands.

With all of that said, I still hope he commits to ISU. Hopefully the coaches can take care of the handlers and keep him happy. I know that coach D Rob has strong ties to Chicago. Maybe that is enough to keep Colvin happy.
