You guys are really soft. I thought the KU forum was soft. Toughen up a little. Are you lambs or sheep? IB

Ironic a guy on a message board whining about not getting his way telling us to toughen up.

toughen up and get over the fact that Billy won't be the "gin and tonic" you were hoping for.

Oh come on Chris! You are going on the assumption that Hoiberg is OUR GUY! Then and only then does your argument have merit. This is the 2nd time Pollard has sped up the process. Seems to me the football search was pretty quick. JP said that he wanted to hold on to the signees. Well, I am sure if a different coach might of preferred to bring in his own. He wanted to save Otz. Well again, perhaps another coach would of wanted to bring in his own. If Otz is the second coming perhaps he should of offered the job to him.

I know I am taking a contrairian approach to all of this but truth is Hoiberg would probably been better off under the tutaledge of a name coach for a few years. Hoiberg says “I always wanted to coach!†Well heck Fred, the path you were on wasn’t putting you any closer to your dream as MOST future coaches hitch their wagon to someone and hope they go up.

Fred Hoiberg is a great man, a great family man, a great friend of Ames da, ta da, ta da. We all know that. What we don’t know (but all feel and no longer will say) is whether he has the x&o’s down and can get the message across. Remember everyone, and please pay attention to this, “IT’S NOT WHAT WE KNOW AS LEADERS, IT’S WHAT WE CAN GET OTHERS TO DO!†That could play right into Fred’s hands but again, there is no track record to speak of.

Now we are searching for a coach who can really coach! Seems to me we are getting the cart before the horse. Even Steve Deace was neutered as initially I KNOW he wasn’t comfortable with the hire but now because of future interviews and he don’t want to ostersize himself from Cyclone nation. The junkyard dog has had his teeth pulled. He really isn’t telling you how he feels because of the backlash he would receive.

You too Chris have bent like the palm tree amongst 150 MPH winds to live another day. You have not chosen to die on this hill. Ceretainly NOT being contrary to this decision will keep you in good graces so your heart will continue beating.I however while appreciating Fred Hoiberg would of been more comfortable with a hire like Gillespie or Forbes who have hands on experience. I will also grovel at all of your feet if I am wrong but I have about 3 years to prepare for that event if it does in fact occur. I however will not gloat if Fred fails as it is nothing to gloat about.

I am tired of having my face pressed into the dirt. I want a piece of the Big 12’s ***** and I feel a onery bastard like Gillespie would of been the “tonic†that we all needed. To ask Fred to chew up the likes of KU and Texas with NO official coaching experience is like closing the barn door after the horse is stolen….. then again, they may come back for the saddle. IB
It's easy, choose another team. Maybe Gillespies..............or does he have one?

I'm a Cyclone.

Are you a Hawkeye or a pig? I ask this because if you are a Hawkeye, your bashing of Chris can be understood when put into your perspective. If you are not a Hawkeye and you are a pig, you have no qualms about cannibalizing your own fan base. Lots of pigs in Iowa and your SN is "iowaboy."

You need to read between the lines; it is not if your a hawkeye or a pig; it is you have been lied to. Ia State has been an arm pit in basketball - got rid of everyone whom didn't care about it!! Get it done - Clean House - get it back. After today its a good start!

Have you ever met Fred Hoiberg? I'd be willing to bet JP has alot more knowledge and circumstancial evidence that he will be a great leader of young men than you do that he won't. I think besides knowing the x's and o's, the fact that Freddy is one of the more likeable people we know around here makes a difference. He has alot of different experiences that I think will make a positive impact in his ability to positively mold young men.

Was Fred not interviewed during the same time as McD???

If he was... then I think a large portion of the decision was based on that interview process... thus helping 'expidite' this search.

At the time, Pollard felt McD was the better hire, but maybe Fred had a lot of what we were looking for... but just not enough to put him ahead of McD.

Now, with the many NBA front office connections, in addition to what he brought to the table at the previous interview, and his iconic stature that can unite a fanbase...

...he fits the mold of exactly what we were looking for. And as Chris mentioned... the speed in which the search happened allows our coach a much better 'choice' as to whether or not he chooses to retain the current roster and recruits with less chance of others wispering in their ears in the mean time.

I think Fred was a great hire... only time will tell though.

To the OP, feel free to voice your opinion... but calling out someone else (such as Chris) and telling them that they're lying and just trying to keep in the good graces of the staff is pompus and unwarranted.

You don't have a clue what Chris' feelings are, and the best any of us can do is take his word for it... or choose to not believe it. But to tell him how he really feels is flat out rude.

Exciting times but CFH will have lots to prove not just to the ISU faithful, but the outside folks as well. Lots of people will watch this with great interest to see if coaching is something someone can just DO or if the hours and games and years IN THE SEAT as a coach actually prepare a guy to do it.

CFH wouldn't have been on my list but he's our coach and I'm all-in as usual for all things Cyclone. Change is good.

Did you ever think CW and the rest of Cyclone Nation like this hire and are supportive of it?

I'm an ISU grad, casual donor, and life long fan. However I'm not at all behind this hire. I think the man was hired for all the wrong reasons.

I looked through your post history quick....I got through 3 pages and still hadn't found a post where you aren't crying about something. How can you live life that depressed? Good God.

I get the impression a lot of fans at both A&M and Kentucky did not like Billy Gillepsie. He can go and be "tough" somewhere else. That's not what this program needs right now.

I'd rather have a Tim Floyd/Johny Orr type who actually can talk to fans and players and motivate both.

My life is actually very full. Great job, great family and friends and no complaints. I assure you I'm not the type of guy my friends would ever call "depressed". I'm a pretty happy guy by nature.

I'm just a person who has not been excited about the last two football and basketball coaches we have hired. I want better for the school I cheer for.

I like what Paul did last year with the football team but one decent season does not make you the next Bear Bryant. Time will tell. Mac D sucked, Chiz sucked and I'm just not stoked about Hoiberg.

I agree with some of your post...but I do think Pollard demanded to have Otz on his staff to keep the recruits here this year...I think in 4 years if Hoiberg is still here he will more then likely get a new recruiter (depends on how well we do)..I DO wish we would have spent at least a week on the coaching search...Face it guys..we went 4-12 in conference this season with a team people thought would be a sweet 16 team (C-Dub)...Lets say we got Gillespie or Gregory from Dayton..how do we know he wouldn't bring in a better recruiter then Otz?

It just seems like we are bringing in McD guys to play in FH style ("up-tempo")...part of the problem with the program is we are not bringing enough talent to win 20 games a season..so we keep a part of it that was on our 15 win team??? Sorry guys doesn't make a lot of sense...would have been better to clean the slate then try to win with McD guys.

Another problem is that Pollard spent his time on one candidate...Hypothetically speaking, why if Bill Self or Tom Izzo was interested (I know they wouldn't be...but pretend they do) what would you say if we picked Hoiberg over them without giving Self an interview?

We had 15 coaches who have been successful at our door...we didn't even give them a chance to interview...doesn't ANYONE see this as a big red flag?

Sorry it's long...but you guys need to take off the cardinal and gold glasses because this hire was really boneheaded...

20% chance he will work out at Iowa State...I'll GLADLY eat crow if i'm wrong..but this hire was disgusting at best.:wideeyed::no:

agree..if FH wanted to be a coach so badly...why didn't he take an assistant role at ANY school?...I'm waiting for your answer.

College to NBA or NBA to college USUALLY doesn't work...unless you are like Larry Brown...and being a GM in the NBA isn't close to being a head coach in college...so that doesn't work either.

And you guys seem to be missing the fact that just because you hire someone with experience doesn't mean automatically that they will pan out.

really?..didn't know that:jimlad:.

Would you rather FH have experience as an assistant SOMEWHERE...or just come here from the NBA like he did?

If FH was a successful assistant at Kansas or somewhere rather then being in a GM-like role with arguably the worst run NBA organization not rhymed the "Mets"..then your tune would change wouldn't it?

I'm really concerned he doesn't know how the college game works...just a big flag that is coming up..and like I said before don't compare NBA and college...completely different games..:wideeyed:
