I think we've at very similar levels right now and both records indicate that.
Iowa has older players who are more experienced, but their bench is darn thin. I wonder what their record would be if they still had Tyler Smith?:mask:
ISU is a younger team, but we've got some good talent. However, still a very young team and lack of a good point guard(which Iowa has) really hurt us this year. We've got a thin bench over all too.
Two relatively new coaches, so both teams are still adjusting to new systems. I think both coaches are going to be good for both programs.
Some ISU fans want to throw the baby out with the bath water with our new coach because we've had more recent success than Iowa and they're impatient and want wins NOW. Iowa fans on the other hand haven't really had any success since the Tom Davis years, so are more patient or perhaps apathetic about the current state of the program.
Hilton Colisium still kicks Carver Hawkeye arena for a place to watch basketball!:yes:

This is exactly what I was going to post, but I wanted to finish reading the thread before I did. The fact of the matter is both programs are not good right now.
I'm confused. What is the purpose of this thread? Iowa would be better with Tyler Smith. Wouldn't ISU be better with the 8 players who left, Daa. Do we have to go through this after every loss? Things are what they are. All of us would love to be talking about wins, but we simply don't have the talent. Look at what we have coming in the future and the possible additions of Barnes, Stevens ect. I'll take ISU anytime.

Why do some always feel we have to go down this road? Both teams have problems. Both teams are not very good. Sure Iowa has 2 upsets but they only beat the worse program in DI basketball by one point. I dont give a flying F on how good Iowa is, all I care about is ISU beating them, after that they are just like any other team. YOU CANNOT COMPAIR 2 PROGRAMS AND THE REBUILDING THEY DO, EACH SITUATIONS IS DIFFERENT.
There are more Iowa posts here than ISU posts some days. Maybe the name of the site should be ConfusedCycloneFanatic.com.

I think the group is wondering if the MVC style of offense will succeed in the Big12 where guards drive to the bucket to break down the defense. The Big 12 is a more powerful conference than the MVC because the guys are usually bigger and heavier.
And generally more talented, faster, and more athletic. But ultimately, what everyone else in the Big XII runs is more of a concern for our defense than our offense, and our defense has been okay.
Im worried about the "MVC" offense as well. The Big XII is generally a faster conference, I wonder if the gazillion play thing is best option when things happen so quickly and adjustments always need to be made on the fly. Get a good, dynamic point guard (or two), teach the players how to pass and share the ball, have some confidence in them, and turn them loose. Im not a coach though, and maybe Im wrong, but this seems to be how the best offenses work..
Drake is in the MVC and they drive a lot. This team is driving more and more but they need stronger guards to be able to finish. Give DG sometime.
Why do you guys think the MVC is "inferior"? Twenty years ago I would have agreed with you, but they've closed the gap pretty well. Look at the athletes SIU, and Creighton have. Also I'm not sure why people thing they play slower?
A lot of good coaches also have come out of the smaller conferences to coach in the big time.
