Conference title gets more attention than regular season title...

I love conference tournament titles, but I want even more to have that regular season title so those Jayhawk fans shut the **** up about their streak.

In the arena tonight, as KU fans were filing out, I turned to one and said, "I really hope your team can kick some *** in the NCAA tourney this year." I was sincere and said it with a straight face.

KU fan's response? "We've still won 11 straight conference championships."

So now I'm looking forward to KU's annual March Madness Chokejob.

Here nor there
You should care, winning the regular season would be incredible.
For an an hour.

Who cares? The best part of finishing first in the standings at the end of the year is that it means you have enough wins to get a great seed. The NCAA finish is the singular most important and defining thing about a season. I don't even like to think of the 2000-01 season. Great that we won all those games in January that year, I guess.

In no real sport is the championship automatically awarded to the team with the best regular season record. There is always a playoff to determine the true champion.

I'm guessing you'll make a crack about it, but the English Premier League as well as many other leagues have no playoff to become champion. Tournaments are made for TV, and TV rules. That's part of the reason we love the NCAAs.

Regular Season Title >> Tournament Title in College Basketball. Saying that the professional leagues are comparable to college is stupid (not at LindenCy, I saw a couple people say that in the game thread).

That said, saying the conference title is meaningless like Kansas fans are is just as stupid. Both are important. Regular season is a 2 month award while the tournament is a 3 game award.

It's why March Madness is so awesome, upsets happen frequently when one team can have a cold night and lose. In the pros, you have 7 game series meaning 90% of the time the better team wins. I don't think UCONN was the best team last year for the whole season, they had the best 6 game stretch.

And don't get me wrong, I love winning the conference tourney, but why downplay our conference regular season?

because Iowa State won the tournament and not the regular season. If Iowa State wins the regular season title and loses the tournament title you'll have a thread saying they'd rather win the regular season one.

I think this is why these discussions are so bad.

Seriously? For whom? We won the last game, against the #1 seed in the Big 12 and are tournament champions. The only reason the regular season title would matter at this point is if we didn't win another game. Who are you people who put so much emphasis on something the rest of the country gives absolutely zero ***** about? Regular season champs is something you hang your hat on when you don't make it to the round of 16. Last time I counted, we got there more recently than Kansas.

I feel the conference tournament is better preparation for the NCAA tournament. It's almost like a test-run. Can you handle games on consecutive days? Short rest and little preparation? I do like that we performed better this year and last year in the conference tournament. Hopefully this has us firing on all cylinders next week.

Our team learned a lot about themselves during these last couple of days. They are peaking at the right time, playing great defense at the right time, BDJ is back to being the player he was in the non-conference, Nader is now coming into his own, Morris has proven he can also carry the offense, and nobody will question our heart or ability to come from behind and win a game.

All of this just happened the past couple of days!
