So who wretles 149 this weekend with Swalla done for the year

Any chance Weatherman is back? I wonder what the status is on Cozart? Is he still with the team? If nothing else, you wrestle Dominic Chase or Aaron Sorenson, they are going to have other years to be able to redshirt if McCauley, G Moreno, etc pan out. Could go with Garrett Hathaway or Matt White. We definitely should not be forfeiting!

Agree that we shouldn't forfeit. Nobody seems real sure what's going on w/ Cozart, but as long as he's healthy, he probably gets the nod vs. pulling a redshirt. If Weatherman can come back close to 100% that's great, but you don't rush back from a disc injury. If neither of them go, then I guess you sit down and talk to the redshirts and see if any of them want to burn it. A lot of the decision for this meet depends on what our plan is for the rest of the season. Is Cozart going to make the most of another shot? Is Weatherman's return realistic?

Pulling another redshirt might depend on whether we expect Weatherman or Mayfield back this season. If they are out for good I think we pull a redshirt and have that wrestler finish the season. If they will be back next week I think we forfeit or bump up Cash (or Cash at 141 and Goettl at 149)

I wouldn't have a problem pulling the redshirt on Dominic Chase, Garrett Hathaway, Matt White, or Aaron Sorenson. None of them are projected to be starters or backups in the next couple years and this may be the only chance to wrestle as a starter. It might also motivate them to push to higher levels. I don't think Swalla will ever be a starter again, unless we have injuries, but he has tried hard and I thank him for that.

I don't agree with bumping Goettl to 149 and Cash to 141. Cash isn't dominating at 133, so we might be costing us 2 weights instead of 1. I also think you don't mess with Goettl, keep him in the groove at 141.

Not exactly sure.
Need to leave Goettl alone. We know this is a tough year, we need to look at growth. People can go ahead and rip on me, but I feel we need to do the best we can but realize that we are already looking at next year for the teamwise situation.

This year we are working on the individual aspect. Don't screw with the freshman that are having success, leave them alone and let them grow. I wonder if Aaron Sorenson would be more likely to pull the redshirt with this being his brother's last year. I think he might enjoy having the brotherly thing happening. The sorenson boys are close.

I'm not saying to give up this year. I'm just saying that the future for this group looks promising and I don't want to mess with that.

I agree don't touch Gottle if Mayfield comes back he can earn the 149 spot. The young guys are starting to come on, should be back in a year or two.

Mayfield is officially done for this year. Tried to come back and headaches didn't easy.

I agree, and that is why I don't think you pull a redshirt for one match. Let the true freshmen continue to develop and have another four years to wrestle. Though if Mayfield is really done for the year then I think you have to either give Cozart another shot or pull a redshirt and commit to that true freshman through the Big 12s.

I agree. Its either Cozart or Aaron Sorenson. If Max, Luke Swalla, Trent Weatherman are all done for the year. If one of them are not done, than maybe Hallman or Cash bump to 149 for a match.

I think Matt White got hurt earlier and Chase and Hathaway have not wrestled a match this year, (no open tourneys). Aaron Sorenson did just wrestle 149 last week in an open tourney.

This info is from ISUChip and cywr89.
