I'd like to see this team have more tenacity on the boards. Cory seems like a guy who will eventually be able to out rebound anyone his height or less(and beyond, i.e Kenny Pratt). He's an all effort guy, which this team is in sore need of. He doesn't get on the court much, and aside from a sharp shooter off the bench, it's hard to be an impact player coming off the bench as a sophomore with the job he's given, as some would like to see. Bottom line he's not given the opportunity to shine, which is OK with me given his age and level of development. You can't give up on people because they haven't set to world on fire by the time their second year playing rolls around. That attitude will take you nowhere.
As I posted before, I like Cory. All teams need players like him and as a soph, who knows how he'll turn out. His effort is a huge bonus as to how he'll develop. I'd like to see 15lbs of muscle added and better footwork. That's just a layman's opinion. The question I'd like answered is what kind of grades does he get in the classroom? This is sometimes overlooked in the success of a program.
I think he looks nervous out on the floor but with time he will look better! But time is something we don't have...I just wanna win...
This same exact thread was on this site about one year ago...here we are a year later and the nearly identical discussion goes on about this kid.
As does the discussion about "waiting until next year or the year after" and giving our coaches another pass (the "last year really didn't count...this is his first year" argument).
I wonder what our discussion will be next year at this time?..hopefully not the same as this year and last year.

What ever the discussion is, hopefully you will be less and less involved in it. Your constant bashing of our program and players is getting very old.
So long as he keeps going to class, keeps trying as hard as he can on the court, and give us a few minutes off the bench as a spark, he is helping our program in many ways.
Cory Johnson really tears me between 2 different opinions.
The first is that he is a hard worker and hussles all the time. He hasn't had the best/easiest tenure at ISU but is sticking with us. This makes me want to stick with him.
The other is that he hasn't lived up to his hype (isn't he the all time leading scorer from MN?) He has had 2 years and really hasn't done much except take a schollie. That schollie would probably be better used else where.
Having said that, not everyone pans out and he still has 2 years left to develop. I think my first opinion is the one I agree with most. I think he will play an important part of our team the next 2 years. He won't be a double double every night guy, but I think he more or less does the little hussle things it takes to win games. I hope he improves for his sake, because I would love to see a hard worker get his reward!:yes:

He is only a soph. There was a time when you never even saw anyone but juniors and seniors playing. Lets let him finish his career before putting the 'never produces' stamp. According to some here Sean Haluska was a complete waste of sneakers. Now look how well he is playing. The point is, until everything is said and done, none of us know how good any of our guys will end up.
This is true, but I think Alex is better than CJ, atleast in game situations he is. I really think next year will be the defining year for CJ as there will be room for him with Jiri leaving. Even if Alex starts, CJ can spell both him and Brackins if he beats out the freshman coming in.
You know he looks a lot like Fred Hoiberg did when he played, but boy much different players. I'm not sure what to think of him. He seems to get a foul right away and Mcdermott pulls him right out before he gets into his game.
A reasonable person would tell you at least 3 yrs. At least that under normal circumstances. Getting screwed by the NCAA is one of the variables you can't plan for and things like that only add to that rebuilding time.

I guess some cant pick on Peterson or beat up Haluska without looking like a fool since he broke out of his slump, so now its Cory's turn? lol.... The real blame for the teams funk is Brock Jacobsen.

I don't know how you can fault a guy if he is giving his all and keeping his nose clean. We can hope he keeps getting better, but if he isn't being lazy or getting into trouble, I think it is just best to root for him as hard as we can when he plays.
Dude...you really need to work on your reading comprehension. I do not engage in "bashing" either our players or our program.
Most of the comments you perceive to be negative (of which there are really only two topics where you have that perception...Eikmeier and the progress we are showing in year 2 of the McDermott era) are really directed towards some of the ridiculous emotion based thoughts that many on this board have towards Eikmeier and McDermott.
I want both Eikmeier and McDermott to succeed...not because they are from the midwest, or they are nice guys, or they have done great things in their past...rather because they are a part (or will be in Eikmeier's case) of MY ALMA MATRE's team.
