Cory Johnson

He is only a soph. There was a time when you never even saw anyone but juniors and seniors playing. Lets let him finish his career before putting the 'never produces' stamp. According to some here Sean Haluska was a complete waste of sneakers. Now look how well he is playing. The point is, until everything is said and done, none of us know how good any of our guys will end up.

Hey, now. Let's not waste time being reasonable. Let's just start cutting people loose!

Does anybody remember the

incredible physical transformation CJ made between Fresh and Soph years? That only happens with hard work and dedication. He's a bigger guy and still learning how to be a bigger guy but they seem to take longer but given his apparent dedication to his craft you gotta believe he will only get better and better.

And whomever mentioned a wasted scholly, how many guys on Duke never play? I know there are 5 Zags that don't see the court and they play for a well-established nationally recognized program.

We need to get to the point where we have scholarship kids that aren't playing, instead of all the scholarship kids playing and only walk-ons behind them. It's called depth, and we need to develop it.

Corey was plenty big in highschool and could play however he wanted. But in the big 12 he is obviously undersized. He has to learn a whole new game of hoops to be effective. That takes a lot of time and may never really happen. Hopefully next year he can learn some crafty moves around the hoop and play good position D. If he averages 5 and 4 of the bench that would really help.

i think he just needs more experience against high level competition. it's hard for players to just be thrown into a game after not playing for a while. once he gets more experience he'll develope a comfort level with his role like thompson has and will be a decent player. one thing you can always count on with him is hustle. i'll take a cory johnson any day.

Exactly, give him some playing time early next year, and let him build some confidence. We've seen what hes capable of. If you went to the winter break games it seemed as if he had a point a minute for how much he played. He has awesome hustle and will hopefully become a bigger asset the more time he sees. (which in my opinion is not a bad thing)

This kid has no problem with attitude, hustle, experience, or even his offensive basketball skills. His problem is something he can do very little to nothing about...size and athleticism. He is too small to play inside in a conference like the Big 12 and too slow to play outside in a conference like the Big 12. It is really quite simple.

He is a sophomore. You have no idea what his career at ISU is going to end up like.

The best team usually isn't the team with the best 5 players on the floor. It's usually the team with 5 players who work together the best (e.g., Drake). It's players like Cory who make the hussle plays, do the dirty work, and have an extremely positive attitude that can make a team successful. I'm very happy that Cory is a Cyclone and I think his best years are ahead of him.

Threads like this are a joke. First we have the bashers of Jiri, then he improves dramatically and then we shift to Peterson and Haluska. Now they are vital members of the squad so next Alex Thompson is a waste of playing time, but he is now playing some good minutes so that topic loses interest. Now Brackins is having a freshman slump and people are questioning whether he should be playing at all and whether Gmac should make him sit until he decides to play again. Wesley should have taken a medical redshirt because he obviously isn't playing like he should. Now they've either become a vital part of the team or it's hard to keep a thread going trying to complain about them now we have the same posters that have to have something to complain so now Cory Johnson is the problem because "he's not Big12 material", and "hopefully he improves so we are not burning two years of scholarship". Here's the facts.

CJ is only a sophomore....
CJ played his entire first year as a #5 player when he is more accustomed to the #3 and more likely #4 position.
CJ has the work ethic of a coal miner so his time is coming.
We are 1 1/2 yrs into rebuilding mode where everyone is learning and struggling with a whole new style of play. Everyone is struggling

Maybe if the same posters put off their bashing of our players for two months, they will have improved significantly so the threads now have no credibility or something else comes up that makes more sense!!

Either way, we aren't wasting time reading them.
