Personally, unless the phone number from a TXT is from a nearby area code, or I can find them on FB, I won't respond. Too many fakes and automated crap. .

I've had the same Chicago 312 area code number for over 12 years - never changed it because I didn't want the hassle of it. Lived in Iowa, Nebraska, and Colorado since. I don't really see this as a good way to filter people.

I don't want it, but if I did want it I want to know if you still have it, you know, just in case.
I had a person e-mail on a Friday asking if something was available. I responded immediately saying it was. On Saturday, someone else asked if it was available, I responded, she responded back, and she had picked it up within the hour. Person who e-mailed me on Friday e-mailed me back on Monday saying he wanted it, and got mad when I told him it was no longer available, and said he was trying to line up transportation before he responded back.

The other thing that drives me nuts is when people come with undersized vehicles. For example, my hide-a-bed sofa is not going to fit in your mini van (I'm not kidding).

I listed landscaping rock for free a couple years ago. Some lady showed up with a Rubbermaid tub and a snow shovel. I told her to go home, think things over, and try again.

You'd be suprised what will fit into the back of a mini-van. My 2004 Grand Caravan hasn't seen its rear seats since 2007. Currently had a full 4x8 sheet of plywood lining the floor. I've hauled all sorts of big stuff in there.

I just use a special email and never do phone numbers until it's a solid lead.

I'd never let anybody in my house either, no further than the garage.

We are looking at getting a camper. The price vs age was somewhat suspicious, but have seen some good deals before. Anyway, I emailed the guy and asked for a few more pictures of the camper because I wanted to see if it was worth the drive. He sent the pics and all looked good. He said he was selling it because his wife had recently died and hes trying to just unload thing he no longer has time or want to use. We texted back n forth for a couple days about features and stuff. He mentioned how he uses ebay services for the transaction to safeguard both parties. Red flag went up. I then asked him if I could come see it last weekend and he said he already told me, he uses ebay services for the transaction and said they would call me to get my name, number, address, etc to start the paperwork. They would send me the camper and if I wanted to keep it, the money would be processed, if not they would pick it up. That was the end of that nonsense. I flagged him on CL for a scam and he disappeared. I hate that ****, they ruin it for everyone.
This must be pretty popular as I saw this same thing from my father in law who was looking for a used pontoon boat. He sent me the email and wanted me to check it out. The lady claimed that her husband had passed on and was selling the boat since she could no longer use it. I immediately thought scam and told him so. The post was removed so we couldn't flag it, but I am guessing someone else already did.

I had a 20 ish year old girl drive halfway across the state to meet at my house to pick up a friends cat that I had taken to adopt out. She never onced asked my name, had no clue who I was, if I was male, ect. Just called me once she got to my town and I told her how to get to my house. I had done my research, found her facebook ect and turns out shes some smoking hot chick from Davenport. I felt like I should explain to her after she just walks into my house that in the future she needs to be more careful w/ her craigslist acquisitions.

The couch didn't even come close to fitting.
