I've reached a level of middling seniority where I don't have to be there for them anymore so I'm fine either way.As an outsourcer we do these all the time. I hate them

I know it’s a joke. But…. Restart has fixed many IT problems in the past. I’ve personally “fixed” many IT issues by just restarting.Did you restart?

Oh, for sure. It’s such an effective fix, that it makes the joke. So effective, and it happens so often, that all users should know to do this even before calling a HelpDesk.I know it’s a joke. But…. A lot of times, we see people having trouble with their cache being stale (because they'll leave their computers on overnight and browsers open with 50+ tabs). I *could* tell them to clear their cache via CTRL+F5 or going up to the browser tools, but I always tell them to restart. 1. Because it's easier just to say restart instead of explain everything 2. Because their computer needs a good restart with their habits. One time I had to call into help desk because of some issue a long while back. I like messing with them a little because if I have to open a ticket, something is messed up that I don't have access to.
(A little ways into the conversation and explaining to him I also work in IT and would need help from yada yada type person)
Help Desk: "Did you restart?"
Me: "Yes I did that before I called you"
Help Desk: "Ok, just to verify, can you unplug the machine and plug it back in"
(Mischiveous grin comes across my face)
Me: "Sure no problem!"
(Unplugs computer)
Help Desk: "What do you see sir?"
Me: "My desktop screen"
Help Desk: "I thought you said you unplugged it?"
Me: "I did! But it's a laptop so we're gonna be on the phone a few hours chatting while this battery dies"
Help Desk: "Let me transfer you to my supervisor sir"
Did you restart?

From what I've seen on the Teams chat, users that powered down their laptop last night didn't seem to have issues this morning. Of course VDI's had issues. It's amazing to see that stats on how long people leave their laptops running without reboots/powering down.
Yeah, the fix is to boot into safe mode and delete a specific file. If the device wasn't powered on, it never got the update. From what I've seen on the Teams chat, users that powered down their laptop last night didn't seem to have issues this morning.
