I find this hard to believe but they are not currently in a coaching search (or they have already fired Hawk and are just trying to hide their search)

They are still paying Barnett this season, and word is they don't have the money for a Hawkins buyout. It would cost them several million dollars. I think he may last another season. That's good for Iowa State. His recruiting this year at CU is a shambles. Let him wallow there.

The thing is, with Hawk on the hot seat and rumors swirling, CU is already screwed. How do you recruit effectively with that cloud over your head? I see his comments as being a way to save face. The spin is to make the university look bad by firing a guy who did things the right way. If the AD and President were behind him, they would have immediately made a strong public statement backing him, which they didn't.

Barrnett was pretty good, he won a bunch of North Titles and (1) Big 12 Championship. Granted, the North was down, but cudos to him for getting it done.

I wonder if the AD is posturing to put pressure on a big donor to help them out. I thought Hawkins was a great hire when it happened, but it's becoming obvious that the current Boise coach (Peterson?) was the key to their success.
