Will take him 2-3 years to make the bigs, so at least the Cubs fans have their platform for hope until 2015!

Seriously though, good deal on both ends. Cubs have control until he's 29 at a reasonable cost and Soler would be an idiot for not signing a 9 year contract. With the new draft rules, international signings will be even more competitive to add talent to organizations.

Theo and Jed have a plan and their sticking too it.. get Almora signed, flip Garza, Dempster, Soriano, etc for some more prospects and you're looking at a pretty large overhaul of the farm system in just one year.

Cubs now have some exciting youth to hope to build on. Rizzo, Jackson, Baez, Soler, Almora. Next on the agenda would be to get some more high ceiling arms and I think they did that in the draft and will do that in trades coming up.

Love the direction

Scratch that, he has the ability to opt out.

Soler could make a lot more than $30 million over next 9 yrs, because he can opt out of contract altogether during his arb-eligible years.

This is a good beginning of a massive overhaul. Get rid of soriano, dempster, soto, and marmol and really let the rebuilding begin.

Agreed. Garza would have high value as well. Forgot about him

So did I.
That's two starters with trade value, and then those other 3 that we'd have to heavily subsidize.

Soriano's on a nice streak lately. If a contender fails to remember that he's extremely streaky and that this one will end soon, that will help the Cubbie cause. We'd stil be heavily subsidizing the deal, but his streak might help a little.
