Amid questions that he didn't try hard enough to play through a knee injury, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler received a painkiller shot at halftime of the NFC title game, a source close to the situation told the Sun-Times.
It's believed Cutler injured his knee on the first play of the second quarter, when Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Ryan Pickett landed on his left knee, as he attempted a short pass to running back Matt Forte. Cutler headed to the locker room for halftime ahead of his teammates, and doctors and trainers confirmed their initial, on-field assessment.

It's believed the team planned to shelve him for the remainder of the game, at that point. But that Cutler insisted on trying to play and received a painkiller injection to ease the pain.

The world apologizes to Jay for calling him a wimp. That is truly the fault of Bears management for not addressing the situation better.

I guess I'll give Cutler the benefit of doubt and say that this article is true.

Unfortunately for Cutler whether it's true or not won't change the perception of him.

If indeed true, Cutler needs to fire his PR person. Bears should do the same.

Not that he should have to tell everyone if he took an injection, but as soon as the perception of a quitter started these people should have come to his defense with this ammo.

The fact that this is being reported well after the fact makes it smell fishy. It could be incompetence on the part of the Bears (and Cutler) or it could be a load of BS.

Like I said though, it really doesn't matter what happened now. He's lost a lot of goodwill with the fanbase but if he wins a superbowl all is forgiven.

I think large majority of the fanbase is back behind him for two reasons:

1. Urlacher said all is fine and defended him. 54 has a lot of sway w fans.

2. Cutler is far and away the best qb ever to play for the bears talentwise. If we want to make the super bowl in the next 5 yrs he has to be under center.

Anyone still questioning his toughness looks stupid after all the information that has come out since that game. He clearly wanted to play in the game and did everything he could be ultimately he was hurt and the coaches pulled him.

It's not like he was playing well when he was in the game in the first place, you can still say he chokes under pressure in big games based off his actual performance but to say he quit on the team and wasn't tough is going too far.

Anyone that roots for a team whose QB is probably the biggest choker in big games shouldn't be throwing stones at glass houses. Romo is about as big of a choke artist as there is in the NFL these days.

Not a Romo fan but I think he has at least won a playoff game.

Wasn't this Cutler's first winning season since high school?

That being said, I'd take both of them over Chad Henne right now.

I still argue that if the bears didn't let him get sacked 50+ times this season we aren't even having this conversation.

So I guess Trent Dilfer is a better quarterback than Dan Marino and Jim Kelly because he won a Super Bowl and those 2 guys didn't.

See, I can make ridiculous statements too.

You did read the post I responded to right? He said that Romo was the biggest choker in history. I simply stated that Cutler doesn't have a real impressive resume either.

An MCL would not affect your anility to walk or even do stairs, it's the planting and side to side it affects, which I'm guessing comes into play during and NFL game.

regardless of his injury, shot or not, he should of at least stepped up and been a leader and been talking and coaching the QB's that went in after him, telling them what to look for or watch out for or even to pep them up a lttile, The thing that bugs me about him is he has no leadership skills. Not to say being a better person would help his playing but hey, can't be any worse.
