I also prefer in the attic as long as it works but what the covenants say doesn't matter. Federal law allows you to put up an antenna or satellite dish up to 1 meter in diameter to receive TV signals.
If something changes definitely look into it. I usually don't get into tech at all but sling has been awesome.
For the love of everything holy, make sure to 'homerun' all your wiring to a central location. I'd recommend this for all cat and coax but that's just me.

Oh remember if you sign up for Sling for three months they will send you a free Roku Stick or Amazon Fire Stick which are both about $60. So you get three months of the service which is about $60 and then the device. I do believe you have to call to get this offer though.

I have Sling, Netflix, HBO Now, and Amazon Prime running through an Amazon Fire TV box
Mostly I watch Sling and Netflix. Sling is perfect for me as far as TV is concerned because it's a combination of all of the TV channels I watched most often anyways (TBS, TNT, IFC, ESPN, and AMC). The only thing I don't like about it is that browsing the on-demand content is a terrible experience.
I mainly have Amazon Prime for the shipping benefits. I rarely watch anything on there unless Netflix doesn't have it.
I'm probably going to ditch HBO Now until next April because the shows I watched on there ended for the year (Game of Thrones, True Detective) and I rarely watch it now.

You can also get a Fire TV or a Roku (not the sticks) for 50% off if you prepay for the three months as well. I know some have had no issues with the Fire or Roku sticks but others have. I have had zero issues with the Roku 3 though.

and a wireless keyboard/mouse (although, looking, they've gone up in price, I got a refurb one for like $150) so that I don't have to mess with chromecast or apple airplay (never had any luck with the chromecast I bought, may have been a router problem).
Looks like the HP is discontinued, now that I look, but there are other mini desktops that'd work as well.

I run sling on a google nexus player and love it, have the kids package for disney jr and disney xd. We also have hulu, wife is watching castle right now. I didn't have any issues with ESPN all weekend on sling. Nice thing about a google nexus player is you can run Kodi easily and it runs many android games very well. BTW, Xbox has a sling app as well, in case it hasn't been mentioned.
For all of you that have trouble getting channel 5.1, it is because it operates on low vhf which is difficult to pick up. I have a huge antenna on my roof in Pella and get 90+ percent on every channel except 5.1, which I get 30-50%, even with my amplifier. I'm thinking of building an antenna designed to specifically pick up channel 5.

I don't think they have the Fire TV or stick deal anymore. At least I didn't see it when I looked today.
Nope, with Amazon relaunching their devices, I think they have stopped that deal...for now.
Slight tangent, but does anyone else feel like Netflix has gotten more disappointing over the last couple years? Not talking about their original programming, but their movie selection. If I'm looking for a particular movie, chances are that they don't have it. I don't remember this being as big of a problem a few years back.

Looks like chromecasting works now! Just had my phone open on sling and saw the chromecasting icon....yes!!
I'm not sure how long ESPN will will keep it's contract with sling. They're kind of trying it out on a trial basis and it doesn't sound like they're too impressed with Sling so far so who knows how long it will last.
I think I'm finally dumping cable. Netflix, sling, and a new antenna. My biggest concern is Cubs games, but unlocator plus MLB.tv seems to be the ticket... Or illegal streams from front row
