Old People Tips for Students:

Yell a few cuss words at somebody, but not too many, or else we will get mad (see "F*** McGary").

Be rowdy and excited, but not too rowdy, or else you will want to rush the court, and we have a set of rules for when that is OK.

Show up early to make noise, because I paid way too damn money money to show up before 6:58 for a 7:00pm tip.

Keep your phone in your pocket throughout the game, or else I will post on CF during the game from the parquet about the students using their smartphones.

Come to all of the games, because it looks bad when you don't, and nothing in a 20-year old's life is a reasonable excuse for missing an Iowa State basketball game.

Band members should not chant during free throws, because the chants are stupid, even though the other students do not make enough noise during free throws anyway.

Bring signs into the student section, but not dumb signs, or else we will tell you that your sign is dumb.

Did I miss anything?

Don't ever leave early, it will make things too congested for us old people leaving at the 4 min timeout.

If the students do just these 2 simple things, I am happy.
1. Show up.
2. Be loud and crazy.

Anything else is gravy.

This. Why doesn't anyone in the pep band realize that their chants are incredibly lame?

This is true. But why don't people realize that the problem doesn't lie with the band but rather the students who aren't even paying attention or making noise?

To be fair, the students haven't had a lot of cheering and being loud practice after watching the ******** team all year.

The showing was amazing, but the noise level, like others said, was pretty sad.

A blind person probably would've thought it was a secret scrimmage.

Get rowdy, ya tricks.

No, the problem is that the chants are stupid. That's the band's fault and no one else's.

Can we just ban the old people and fill Hilton with students? This year we might be able to fill it with students. Then that way, we can do whatever we want.

We should go build our own Hilton!

Seriously though, they should set up CA using 4 criteria:

1. Seniority
2. Knowledge of basketball
3. Screaming/yelling ability
4. NO ******* PHONE USAGE DURING THE GAME!!

If you old people want noise buy tickets, go to the game, and make it yourself. It's easy to say that from the tv or sitting on your seats with your cone and pop. I'm tired of you never being happy with our student section. Go and take a look at other student sections for these type of games and it's hard to find ones that actually show up. It's never good enough for you.

I'm sure come Tuesday of Dead Week at 6:00 p.m. when the Roos roll into town and there are empty seats in Cyclone Alley, people will be clamoring to take away student seats and give them to non-donors, and CF will return to normal, sadly.

Students versus old people starting up already, huh? As something of an inbetweener (I'm no longer a student, but at 30, I wouldn't consider myself old balls...) I wish that both groups could just see themselves as a unified fanbase, instead of an us versus them mentality. We all want the same thing, awesome fan support for the team. We should be asking ourselves, "What can I do better to help the atmosphere?" rather than pointing a finger and saying, "Here's what *you* need to be doing."

TL/DR: Same team, guys.
