Golden girls being a 15 seed is also a touch shocking.

Also kinda surprised Freeks and Geeks was allowed with only one season. Shouldn’t have been cancelled but you can’t have a one season show on the bracket
Only one season but it was cancelled due to bad scheduling and stupid decisions by NBC. It has a massive cult following and in many circles is considered the inspiration for 'Stranger Things' which is a hugely popular show. It also birthed several huge comedic careers.

Too bad no animated series. Simpsons, King of the Hill, and South Park all could be contenders. I'm not a huge Simpsons fan, but you could argue they should be a 1 seed. Pretty sure it's the longest running sitcom of all time.

Animated series were intentionally not included, they'll likely be their own tourney. So many good ones.

Yep totally agree on the career part, 100% push back on it being an inspiring for stranger things considering the creators mentioned their inspirations and that wasn’t one of them. A ton of parallels but you can say that about just about any show featuring school age nerds

A couple of thoughts:

1. I did not know Orange is the New Black was considered a sitcom.

2. I am curious to see how people vote in matchups in which I deem family friendly vs more adult humor focused such as Schitt’s Creek vs Fresh Prince, Orange is the New Black vs Leave it to Beaver, or The Andy Griffin Show vs Will and Grace.

3. Not that I know whole lot of the older sitcoms, but I think I Love Lucy is way underseeded. I probably would have it trade places with Modern Family or Arrested Development.

4. How is longevity going to play in people’s decision. I know Freaks and Greeks is in one of the play in games, but they shouldn’t have been an 11. I think shows needs to have more than one season to be in a bracket like this. I also think Arrest Development run is too short. I think if a show ran for too long that could be a hinderance like a How I Met Your Mother or season 9 of Scrubs.

This list reads as a classic “everyone who made these decisions is at least 50+ years old” absolutely love the effort here even though holy crap some of these ancient shows are getting way to much love.

Agreed. Feels like overweighting the 70s-90s shows and some notable omissions among newer shows as well as some of the older shows

Just off the top of my head you could make arguments that Ted Lasso, Silicon Valley, and especially The Good Place all could have a place in the field as newer shows. Could probably make some arguments for some 60s shows like Bewitched, Get Smart, or Hogan's Heroes

Yeah longevity is a tricky one. In the 70s, 80s and early 90s shows were given much more of a chance if they didn't succeed immediately. That changed mid-90s and the plug was pulled quickly if new shows didn't pull massive numbers right out of the gate. That does make it hard to do an apples-to-apples on longevity.

It may have started a bit that way but on the whole it was definitely more of a dramedy with more of the balance in drama as it went on. I'd probably say it doesn't really fit.

Some upsets I could see-

King of Queens (11) over The Wonder Years (6) - Doug Herffernan is a huge threat. Watch for him to get hot.

Dont sleep on Andy Dwyer and the 10th seeded Parks and Recreation.
The 5 seeded Married With Children could come out on top in the KOREA region. Watch for Al Bundy to lead.

The 11/6 matchup of Home Improvement vs. Brooklyn Nine Nine in the Boston region will be a can’t miss matchup. Two shows capable of going far.

And a lot of shows were known for not getting good until their second or third seasons, and that's with those shows cranking out 25+ episodes a season. Nowadays a show would have to get to season 3 to have that many episodes.

This is super fun!

It'll be interesting to see how people vote or to know how the committee made their seeding decisions. I tend to judge sitcoms on how willing I am to watch reruns. By that standard Friends, The Office, Modern Family, the first 4 seasons of Roseanne, Parks and Rec, Golden Girls, and MASH would be at the top of my list. Honestly The Golden Girls is the one that I think stands the test of time the most.

It's why Abbott Elementary is so impressive. It's one of a very few hits that is doing an old school network season.

The first season of 'Seinfeld' was really weird, especially the early episodes. Jason Alexander was planning to model George as a chubby Woody Allen, the neurotic but intellectual friend, then that changed obviously to the guy the whole universe was against.

Loving the response even if it's critical. The worst thing we could get was having no response from the public.

A lot of things said are totally valid. We spent alot of time as this isn't something you throw together in a day or 2. There was a ton of shows to consider and nothing was going to be perfect.

Can't wait for the voting to begin.
