During the interview with Wright after he won the 184 championship he talked about how since Cael has came to PSU that a lot of people have stepped up and made the program grow to what we saw this weekend. He mentioned that people on and of campus are more involved with the program. Between this and how dedicated Reader talked after his match I will be joining the Cyclone Wrestling Club today. We can not let the gap grow between our program and the others (PSU, Iowa, OSU, Cornell). We have to show our wrestlers and future wrestlers that we really want this program to be on the top. We need to do our best to prove Cael and the rest of the college wrestling world (Dan Gable for example) wrong by showing them that ISU is a school, and KJ is a coach that can win National Championships.
I am very interested in the posts for this thread. How many people just support ISU when they are winning? How many people support them by attending and cheering for the wrestlers even when they are not ranked number one? I went to PA to do just that....there were few ISU fans there. This saddened me as I looked around at the other schools and club supporters who came from far away places just to support one wrestler who made it to the championships.
Did the so called "sugar daddies" leave with Cael or are the fans the ones who are letting the team down? I went to the after tournament meeting (club) to check it out and was disheartened that there are not more supporting alumni there.
I joined and will be sad when/if we lose matches, but my loyalty and devotion to the team will not waiver.
I hope that I don't sink so far down that I start craping on my own team.... How soon you forget that on this very forum last year some of the fans were not so high on Reader, but now he can do no wrong...
Most wrestlers do not start out as Varners, Caels, etc. They grow into the leaders and AA wrestlers. Please don't forget this as you post about these great young men. 5 of our team made it to the NCAA Championships. We need to celebrate them. Hopefully, as our team matures and holes are filled we will get back to where we need to be. Don't get me wrong, I am a fierce competitor and HATE losing, but I do understand what has happened to this great team and what it will take to get it back on track. I think things look good for next year and the next year looks even better!
Go ISU!
