Scout.com: 2009 CFN Preview - Unit Rankings

College Football News has the ISU offense rated at 59. That behind the Hawks at 17 and Auburn at 48. Does anyone out there agree with this? Auburn offense was bad last year, does the Chiz make that offense better than ours. And give me a break, Iowa does not have the 17 best offense in the nation.

Look at the numbers and get back to us with your findings.

you're absolutely right about EIU, not in the top 20 in Offense this year is my prediction.

Have no idea about Auburn, but they're going up against some pretty ****** off SEC opponents this year.

Auburn has/had one of the worst offenses of the BCS conference teams. Absolutely nothing at QB last year. Good stable of running backs, though. Iowa's offense looked like USC of a few years ago compared to Auburn.

The rankings seem a bit confusing..

as it's hard to determine how one guy determines one offense is better than another.

Iowa did rank 37th in points per game last year in the NCAA, ISU was 82nd. Not that it means squat for this year, just an observation.

Re: Cyclone offence rated behind Iowa, Auburn

Looks like for ISU to clearly be ahead of Auburn and Iowa they need to improve in the red-zone.
Total Offense
ISU 44
Iowa 53
Auburn 104

Scoring Offense
Iowa 37
ISU 82
Auburn 111

So Iowa is going to be much better an offense without Shonn Greene? Really? Top 20? Give me a break.

First off.... its offenSe...

Second, no damn way the Sqwaks are rated in the top 20 in offense... I'd be amazed if they were top 50! What makes their offense good... who is their good receivers.... nobody, that's right.... their QB is mildly unproven.... ok... they lost their only offensive weapon to the draft last year.... Shonn Greene... so I ask, how are they even CLOSE to rated in the top 30 or 40?

The biggest joke is Iowa's WR are rated 36th and ISU's are 66th. Are you kidding me?

And don't forget about Andy "I'm from Ankeny but don't live in a trailer" Brodell. He was very significant for them on O.

I'm sure, just like every pre-season ranking, they are not forgetting the 2-10 product of the Mean Gene Machine.

FWIW, Iowa finished 2nd in the B10 last year in offense. I have no idea how though tbh.

When I see Iowa ranked ahead of teams like FL State, TX Tech, Nebby, Cinncy it mkes me wonder how muh fricking research the wtier put inot it. I think Iowa will have a verry good defense this year but offense will need to prove itself.

All they had to do last year was give Shonn Greene the ball...

I don't believe that Iowa's offense should be ranked that high, but they do have a good OL. Really, until we see what Stanzi can do, there's no telling whats going on. And I did read somewhere that the #2 back behind Shonn is coming back (and he did have some decent numbers, even if most of them came against terrible teams).

If they are going by last year's numbers, then UI would easily be ranked above ISU though...however, it is a new season so I don't know why they would be using last years numbers.

Because it's all they have to go on?
