I am so freaking ready for football to start. These preseason rankings/blogs are absolute jokes and I'm ready for them to be proven so. One thing is for sure...the national media has a stiffy for Iowa this year. They are getting some of the best press I can remember them getting since 05'...hopefully the results are the same.

I'd also put these teams infront of them
Alabama -Julio Jones is a game changer
Notre Dame- Say what you want but they have a ton of offensive weapons
Texas Tech-spread attack puts up alot of points
Georgia Tech-option game that won 9 games last year.

Because it's all they have to go on?

I'm not saying they shouldn't use last year's numbers, but there are other factors that go into the mix...who left, injuries, etc. so going strictly by last years numbers would be dumb.

Getting picked to finish 5th in the conference amounts to getting good press these days? I'd hate to see how you'd react if anyone ever picked Iowa to win the Big 10.

Auburn ranking ahead of any Big 12 school in offense is a joke. You can talk about Gus Malzahn and how great he is, but everyone said the same thing about Al Borges last year and look how that turned out...

Scoring 55 against Minnesota and 45 against Indiana inflated the numbers a bit.

Geesh agreeing with you twice in a day. It will snow tomorrow.

I can't remember the last time ISU scored over 40 or 50 points (and won) on a team.

I'm pretty sure it was aTm - our last road win.

I wonder what criteria they are using for those rankings. Points? Total yards? I can't see Iowa having what I would consider an explosive offense but they do have a lot of experience back along the offensive line and their defense could set them up in good field position a lot of times. I could see a team like Iowa being a fairly high scoring team yet not being anywhere near the top in total offensive numbers. But, as others have noted it's nothing more than preseason rankings which only serve to spark discussions.

How could I forget that one? Bad job out of me. That does, however, seem like a billion years ago.

Thanks 3GenClone, for pointing out a blatent omission on my part.

How about K-State or Colorado? If those are the two teams that Auburn is in front of, that doesn't sound too crazy.

I haven't read through this, but I'm sure offensive efficiency rankings are factored in. Possessions, scores, turnovers, points of turnovers, red zone efficiency, yards, etc. Our offense rolled up a lot of yards last year, but we had a few games where we didn't do much as far as putting the ball in the end zone goes. Also (and I didn't even click the link in the OP), I'm guessing that it didn't help that we faced Ds like Mizzou, A&M and K-St. as far as these rankings go.

Neither Iowa, nor Auburn's offense is going to be considered prolific this year. Functionable, serviceable, maybe. Auburn has talented offensive players, but last year was a disaster. Ben Tate & Kodi Burns have some talent, so it will be interesting to see what they do this year.

Iowa's offense will average about 25 points a game like they always do and they won't turn the ball over a lot. They won't be flashy and they're not going to have a ton of big plays. O'Keefe runs a ball control offense that chews the clock and at worst, gives the defense manageable field position.

Just because Oklahoma scored the most points last year, does that mean they have the best offense? I don't think so. Florida had Tebow, Harvin and a slew of others. Who knows how many points they score against some of the D's OU faced. There's subjective factors that play into this and they have to be acknowledged.

Harvin = Minnesota Viking
