Roku is $50-$130, AppleTV is $70-$200. I guess I don't see the big differrence if ATV is better than the other. With FireTV and Chromecast I wasn't wanting another device that plays the same stuff.

Go with Roku 2-4 unless you have money to burn and want the top level apple tv. The older gen apple tv's are garbage compared to the Rokus.

Speaking of the Texas game will they be doing that again this year? I am hoping that us out of state with Cyclones.tv will be able to stream it this time around.

They blocked CyclonesTV online viewers outside of the state of Iowa from viewing the 2014 Texas game which originated with the Longhorn Network. Below is the info they released. For the full release click here.

Viewers who are outside the state of Iowa and have an online subscription to Cyclones.tv
[FONT=&amp] will not see the game. Big 12 television agreements prohibit online distribution of the game between the Cyclones and Longhorns outside the state of Iowa. Fans outside the state will need to access the game on a cable/satellite provider who carries the Longhorn Network. A list of LHN affiliates - which includes DISH Network - is below.

I exchanged emails with support with the new provider of Cyclones.tv (Sidearm) - they aren't confident that the app will be ready by kickoff on 9/3, which is disappointing. If you have AppleTV and a Mac or iPad or iPhone you can pull up Cyclones.tv on your browser, then use Airplay to watch over your TV (of course you have to have a Cyclones.tv subscription).
Which app was he talking about? Roku or AppleTV?

Pretty sure he was talking about iOS (iphone), although the same may be true with android. The FAQ claims both apps will be available, but it sounds like they are a bit behind based on what he heard.

Dedicated Apps
Before the start of the fall season, all-new FREE apps will be released featuring Iowa State headlines, stats, photos and more. These iOS and Android apps will also provide the ability to view both live and on demand content. These apps are not required to access Cyclones.tv content as the content can be viewed in the mobile browser as well.

Not true. It was a conference game. Therefore the ownership rights go to the conferenc first, schools only after networks don't pick up the game. Texas and ISU made a deal to let it play on the LHN and I believe Texas had to pay ISU some cash as well.
You are right. It was the agreement between Texas and ISU and ESPN that gave Iowa rights to show it in Iowa and Texas rights to show it everywhere else. I hope this year's game is on both but I have LHN so I will get it either way.

ATV is not better than the other. The top three media players on Consumer Reports are the Roku 4, 3 and 2, in that order. Apple TV is rated 10th, behind even the Roku Stick, which can be had for $30 if you shop around.

I have a 2, 3 and a stick in the bedroom (BAZINGA!). I think I paid $25 for the stick and both the 2 and the 3 I'm sure I got for less than $50.

I have Apple TV and it works great. I don't care what nerds in a lab say.

I'm sure it does work great. I just spent the weekend at my cousin's house and his works great. And for the same price he paid for one of his, I have three of mine. I certainly don't begrudge anyone who disagrees, Apple is great stuff.

I've got ATV 4, Roku 3 and a FireTV box on different tvs. AppleTV is by FAR the best of the three in our experience.

Many apps we've purchased for iPhone/iPad work with ATV as well.

I signed up for Sling and got it for 89 bucks.

I see they are still having problems linking your account with the roku app. Have to activate it Everytime I try to watch it. Tech support says they are still working on the issue.

I bought a Roku 3 and signed up for Cyclones.tv today. So far with Cyclones.tv I have had to link my account each time I use it and the organization and appearance leaves a lot to be desired.
It has played the live feed and on demand videos flawlessly and the picture is great. Those were the 2 things that mattered most.

I was asking their support the app question in the context of the app being available on my iphone or ipad. Not sure about appleTV, maybe they plan to release an app for that as well. I was just hoping they would have the app completed for iphone/ipad by 9/3. Not looking good.

Yep, App by game times isnt going to happen. I just went on there and at 1 point you get a popup that prompts you to "tap it to add to your desktop." I did it and I obviously get an App look alike which will take me right to the Cyclones.TV webpage.....only through Safari. I believe those are my cards and I'm going to have to play them.

That really is messed up that they won't have it ready by 9/3 considering that is the only CTV game (other than LHN game). But, the good news is, if it works well out of a browser on any iOS device then it really doesn't matter for this 1 game. You can airplay it to your Appletv or just watch on your computer/iphone/ipad/whatever.

Just got a roku stick today. Thought it was just me that had to sync it to your account every time. Looks like everyone is having the issue. Hope they get it fixed soon!

I assume the linking issue is due to the fact that you have to re-login on pc as well each time you want to watch. I hope they fix that, because it is really irritating.
