Cytown Update

Can you remind me what other commercial development JP has been a part of?

Commercial developments? JTS south end zone and other JTS updates; Hilton updates like the scoreboards and other updates; are you discounting CyTown as though it's a minor project? And his authority to update not only Hilton but Stephens and other buildings of the complex.

Then there is this. Given Iowa State's underwhelming resources, do not denigrate these achievements by complaining that JP, who is by no means directing Michigan or Texas or Georgia-like budgets, is not worthy of loud Cyclone Huzzahs! Boola-Boolas! Hurrahs!

Well. Just discovered I'm blocked by JP on Twitter.

The last tweet that I see with JP is back in Feb. A positive post about CyTown.

I guess it wasn't positive enough
Welcome to the club.

My sin was asking JP if Niang & Hali were slobs because they had beers when they sat courtside.

Hmm, I don't recall to what post I responded with this. I've always been a supporter of JP's achievements and don't recall that I've doubted his work for ISU. Maybe my previous post came across that way. If so, I'm sorry for it.

This idea of not allowing the average person to purchase a beer or two at a game is a head shaker. Most of the conference allows the average person to purchase alcohol at the game, limited to two per customer. ISU is in need of money, they raised ticket prices and parking across the board to bring in more money, but refuse one of the easiest way to bring in a million or two extra dollars per season.
EIU has no problem selling out their high dollars seats in the North end zone that offer more room, better concessions and alcohol sales, but if ISU start to offer beer sales, people will stop purchasing tickets to the Sukup area. Total BS.

I saw Toppling Goliath pulled out of a project near Drake. Wondering if that means they will come to CyTown?
In the announcement TG said they were focusing on brewing, no longer expansion.

Probably still a slight possibility but seems unlikely.
The craft beer scene appears to be on the decline, or at least found a peak. Guessing these breweries need to start cutting back some

all the crazier to see Big Grove continuing to expand

i know thats place is a big Hawk spot but man that would be a dream in CyTown. they really have everything figured out (food, beer, service, aesthetic)

Thanks, I hadn't seen the actual announcement.

I've seen a lot of other articles saying that people aren't drinking as much, especially younger people, so I can see the hesitation to expand.

I agree that it still kinda blows my mind to see Big Grove expanding in the way they are.

However for my 2 cents, I'd be pretty disappointed if Big Grove specifically set up shop in CyTown. I'd rather have none and wait for someplace less obviously aligned with Iowa City to set up shop in Ames. There are so many other potential choices, we don't need to settle for BG. It would be better to have a non-specific pub like 30hop in CyTown than have BG there, IMO.

30 hop is a good call out. would do well in CyTown

whoever executed on this concept needs to do same in Ames
