Dave Armstrong called it...

Off-topic, but as a kid it was special listening to guys like Dave Armstrong, Jon Sunvold, Fred White (RIP), Paul Splittorff call the B12 tournament. Hearing those guys still gets me in March Madness mode. Gary Thompson on covering ISU games back then was a treat.

I can still hear the Phillips 66 commercials....

Seth Greenberg picked us to win it on ESPN's Big 12 conference tournament preview.

I hate it when we get picked to win. This team always loses focus.

Then again, I'm picking us to win as well. As game commentators have said, we have yet to play our best basketball, at least for an entire game. I think we have more room for improvement.

Actually Greenberg did say it was partially because how good McKay has played his role. Defense, rebounding and running the floor. So it's all twisting words at this point.

I remember watching Gary Thompson and John Walters do road games when I was a kid. Then all of the sudden when he retired from broadcasting he got season tickets right behind me so it wasn't till those years of talking to him and listening to him analyze games right behind me that I realized how big of a deal he was. Then was lucky enough to get a picture with him in Chuck Offenberger's book. We're lucky to have that guy as part of Cyclone Nation.

A lot of young Iowa State fans are too young to remember that Gary Thompson used to be the top color analyst (along with the late Al McGuire) for the NCAA Tournament games. I'm not sure how many Final Four and National Title games Gary did for NBC, but at the time he was considered the best in the nation.

I get nervous when we are picked...but great our program is at a place that we get picked.

We've been non-consistent this year...so if we have a 3-4 game win streak left...I guess I'd rather that in the big dance?

I better stock up my fridge...this weekend with a game a day for potentially three days, that's stressful!

Never been a big fan of Armstrong and always thought Splittorff was a better pitcher than a broadcaster, but I loved Ron Franklin with Jon Sunvold on the call.

Yeah, every time I have to listen to Musburger, I think about the good ol' days with Ron Franklin... Too bad he was such an ******* in real life.

And watching the old replays on cyclones.tv with Gary Thompson doing color really brings me back. Those were great days...

Guess the days of being the underdog or sleeper is over. But thats obviously a good thing. Going to ride the guilt trip and still stick with my earlier pick...Baylor. No offense to our guys, but Baylor also impresses me, and I think they've been playing the best the last 3 weeks. Would love to meet them in the championship. Maybe I'll change my mind, but right now, the Texas game is looming first, too scary in my mind.

Let's try to keep in mind that things have changed dramatically for this program under Hoiberg. Iowa State's not that cute little program anymore with The Mayor as the coach, some nice 20 win seasons, some NCAA Tournament bids, and the team that stole the Big XII Tourney title from Kansas. Iowa State isn't the hunter anymore... they are the hunted.

Iowa State is now one of the top dogs in the Big XII and with that comes media attention that this program isn't used to. They have been a top 15 team virtually all year, they are competing for Big XII Championships, they are a team people recognize that can do damage in the NCAA Tournament, they are a trendy Final Four pick, etc...

It's an adjustment, it's a different mindset, and there is no switch that Hoiberg can flip to make that adjustment easy. Everyone better get used to it because it's only going to keep getting more and more difficult as this program continues to improve.

The x-factor if we somehow got to Saturday against Baylor is our crowd. I was down there last year and it was unbelievable but the hype-level this year is even bigger. It would be nuts and I think our guys would bring it home. I am most concerned about horse-face and his gang in the semis.

A lot places and people are picking ISU to win as well. They are doing what us fans do too....they Say ISU is the team that can win in KC, but then they say, Texas is a team that can get hot and beat anyone...so even the experts give themselves an out and protect their nards.

I love all the national hype but at the same time it makes me more skeptical than say last year when we got less pub.

It would appear that this squad has repeatedly fallen victim to their headlines. Let's hope that Fred has banned them from social media and access to the internet, feeding them false stories favoring Texas & Oklahoma!

Final Four predictions and Top ten rankings were immediately followed up with losses to very bad teams. #9 ranking... loss to a horrible South Carolina team. #9 ranking... loss to a horrible Texas Tech team.

The headlines and rankings may or may not have played a part in the team showing up and expecting to roll a lessor opponent without giving 100% effort.
