Re: Ten fearless predictions for 2011: ESPN

I hope this happens, too, and wouldn't be surprised.

But tell me this doesn't count as our signature win of the season. Nebby, Texas, ...Iowa? Nuh-uh. Give me OU, OSU, or heck, even Mizzou.

Ten fearless predictions for 2011 - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

God, I can only hope. On the other hand, this board would go crazy talking about National Titles if we did...

Give us some credit man. If we went 3-0 into the TX game, I still wouldn't except more than 7-8 wins total. But that would be a pretty ******* good year with this schedule.... come to think of it maybe we should be in the NC conversation:jimlad:

HE HATES ISU! IT'S NOT FAIR! OH, THE HUMANITY!!!!!

I don't think anyone has ever said Ubben hates ISU. I've been critical of his coverage of ISU simply due to the volume (or lack there of) of it. The way I see it, if you're blogging a "Big XII" blog it should include as much info about KSU and ISU as UT and OU, otherwise it's simply another run of the mill CFB blog.

I'll admit he's gotten much better (due in no small part to having two fewer teams to cover) and that he's much better than Griffin was but Griffin is a bad measuring stick because he was perhaps the biggest UT/OU blog hack ever.

It would be great to be 3-0, but the clones have not even showed up for an Iowa game for three years. I hope this is the year that the ISU offense can actually score some points on Iowa, it has been pretty ugly as of late.

You must have your eyes closed then. Here's how a 3-0 start would go for this board. About 25% of the people would start the Steele Jantz for Heisman campaign and the internet hype machine will go into overdrive. The other 75% (or realists as they call themselves) would argue that ISU would only win 1 more game, which would be Kansas.

However, neither group would start talking about National titles...after all, it's still ISU.

ISU always has a chance against Iowa in Ames, but I think this season will be a tough match up for them.

Typically, the ISU teams that beat Iowa (05 & 07 especially) win the Iowa OL Vs. ISU DL battle. The only ISU team over the last decade to beat Iowa without winning that OL Vs. DL battle was the 02 ISU squad - and that team had arguably the best QB in ISU history on it (and that ISU DL was pretty good...but I'd say Iowa still won the battle).

ISU has lost the last three games to Iowa by a combined score of 87-15. Again, because this game is in Ames, I'd say ISU has a shot. I need to see Iowa Saturday before making my prediction, but if you watched the game last year, there should be no question that Iowa will win the Iowa OL Vs. ISU DL battle this season....that means something exceptional would likely need to happen in order for ISU to pull out the win.

Steele Jantz may be the next Seneca Wallace, but I need to see that before I'll believe it.

The thing that should have Iowa a little concerned is the fact that Rhoads said we have been studying the offense of Northwestern. They struggle so badly against that offense and it would be awesome if we could come out and play like a great offensive game against them for once. I think our defense should be about evenly matched with Iowas offense. Wally is one of the smartest D coordinators around and Iowa has been known for their very predictable offense. This year we might finally have the talent to pull it off.

Ok, I'll buy that... It was really just a joke anyways.

Personally I'm holding out for a 5-0 start and splitting the Mizz/A&M games to start 6-1.

And here I am worried about starting 0-1 with a JUCO transfer QB starting his first D1 game...

Your 87-15 score is skewed by the last two years of crappy play by ISU. I'd throw it out the window, as most of the players on those teams aren't around any more.

I'm expecting a hard-fought game at this point in time. Of course, no games have been played yet and we have quite a few question marks on the squad. Time will tell!

Pretty good post here.

Both teams will stack the line of scrimmage and make the opposing first year starting QB beat them with the pass. Unfortunately for ISU, the Hawks are much better equipped to do this. The ISU D-Line absolutely has to do a better job of shedding their blocks than last season. The Iowa Oline was destroying the ISU dline and getting to the second level and the ISU linebackers had no chance.
