Ejim had 8 points in 11 minutes and they advance to tomorrow.

Kane had a nightmare game. -23 and they lost.

Clyburn had 0 points in 11 minutes and they lost.

Well from what I had read on the Lakers fan site they are considering more for an immediate potential help as back up shooting guard and a future backup help at PG when Nash inevitably gets hurt. Makes sense they would put him out their with marshall or clarkson. Thing about Kane is he can play the 1, 2 or 3. He is really just an inch shorter than Ejim (didn't Ejim measure out at 6'5 at the draft workouts)

So because he is only an inch shorter than Ejim (who is too short to play the 3 in the NBA) you think Kane can play the 3 in the NBA?

I don't like the facts here, but I have to agree.
It's a whole different world, and not any sort of knock on DeAndre if he doesn't make it. Almost nobody actually makes it in the NBA.

And there's nothing wrong with that. Some guys peak of their basketball mountain is college. No shame in that. The whole concept of "if you want it bad enough and work for it you'll achieve your goals" is BS. Yes, you need those things but it guarantees nothing. So people are simply genetically gifted at a higher level. We're talking 300 or so roster spots for the best of the best all around the world. Every year there are guys on college 1st, 2nd and 3rd team all american teams that will struggle to make NBA rosters or fail entirely. Some won't even get a serious look beyond summer league.

Umm, no. Ejim is too short to play the 4, not the 3. Ejim is not a good enough ball handler to play the 3 though. Kane is 2 inches shorter than Ejim which is probably too short.

Ejim got mostly garbage minutes, his team won by 25 or something. Kane and Clyburn are playing on teams where no one passes.

I feel for Kane. He is trying to play team ball on a team that has no interest in doing that. Randle and Clarkson just want to play hero ball. I saw Kane trying to do the little things (screens, rebound, etc), but it's definitely got to be frustrating for him to play with this team. Especially after playing in a team that led the nation in assists last year. Hope he gets a shot in the summer league from a different team, otherwise I'll have to say his chances are slim to none to make a roster.

Well, I guess if there is any good news for Kane it is that the Lakers don't have a head coach, although the Lakers just got done interviewing Byron Scott for the third time. Perhaps when a head coach is hired, he will bring some order to what has been going on offensively in these Laker games.

I remember when I was called out by several posters on here for simply stating that Kane wouldn't have gotten minutes in the NBA Finals. Good times.

And again, it's SUMMER LEAGUE. This isn't The Lakers. Summer League is a worse version of D-League games.

Because it's summer league. They aren't trying to win; that's not even the POINT of summer league. It's for new/young players to work on their game and for team execs to evaluate individuals. I don't think by any means that this closes any doors for Kane. NBA teams aren't dumb enough to think that summer league is the be-all, end-all of evaluations. If a team thinks that Kane can fill a need they will bring him in if his agent is out there working for him. NBA teams have 10 day contracts, etc... that can be used to give guys chances to prove themselves in real basketball scenarios once preseason gets going. They can also just bring him in and work him out with the team. He's got more than another game or two to prove his mettle.

Yeah, it's SUMMER LEAGUE, and not rigorously structured, but the teams are still trying to do some player evaluation and development, and looking to see how those players might fit on the NBA team. They need at least a little structure for that. That's why assistants from the NBA team's coaching staff are often involved in coaching the summer league teams.

From the little I've seen, the Lakers look rather disorganized compared to some of the other teams, with the predominate philosophy being to let the draft picks hoist up shots. IMO, that would be somewhat different if a coaching staff were in place.

It's like a double edged sword. If he wants to make a splash, he'd have to play more Me Ball like at Marshall, but the only reason he got the opportunity in the first place was because he got rid of that mindset and played Hoiball at ISU.

The first round picks for every team are hoisting shots at big rates. It's what is expected as teams try to get a glimpse of the young players that are going to have guaranteed contracts. Getting shots for undrafted free agents is much lower on their list. This isn't a coachless Lakers thing; all the draftees are chucking up 8-15 shots a game.
