I would say that in general teams with great D are a bit more consistent because they will almost always be in the game regardless of opponent. Teams with great offenses and bad D are the teams that are vulnerable because one bad shooting night will usually end in a loss regardless of opponent.

In reality it just takes one ref crew to call the fouls that teams not named "Kentucky" use to claim "great defense". Great defense in CBB is generally lots of hand-checking, flopping, and hacking.
