Defensive Line Lack of depth (apparent by the departure list alone)

If Bevins, Kron, Lemke and Pompey were still on the roster, none of the juco's would be here. Bevins and Pompey never played. Kron and Lemke played a little last year. Would we really be in better shape with them?

I would agree with the Lemke and Kron approach, because with them on the roster we would not have Taylor or Pierson, to me both of them will play. But since Ayeni is out, to me I would rather have the depth and potential with the other 2. Plus Bevins was listed as the starter early last summer before quiting. Trust me I don't want anyone on the roster that does not want to be here, but I think he specifically would have been pretty nice to have. Also think the potential of Pompey would have been huge if he would have had the motivation. Remembering back I think he was a boarder-line 4 star guy, but dropped because of injury....

We've never really had a complete dline...ever. We either have a solid interior with 220lb des or good DEs and no interior. What's new. Let's move on and see how it plays out because I think we have two solid interior d lineman and one heck of a stud at DE and an emerging one in Myers.

We've had a few good defensive lines in the last 20 years, but not very many. And in the few years we did, we had really good records and went to decent bowls too. Coincidence? I think not.

Winning football is accomplished from building really solid OL's and DL's... and we generally have been pretty poor in those areas IMO.

What it comes down to is ISU has not been very lucky. I think there have been guys in place that were very capable on both lines, but the attrition through injuries or stupidity is unreal under CPR. Look how many OL where hurt last year. How about the year before? Heck, even when ISU had KO, he was hurt most the time. There have not been as bad a losses on the DL, but there were certainly some Big 12 capable guys that never made it to their senior year.

Look at this year on the DL. Coe and Irving were obviously at issue, so the coaches went the JC route, only to have the two guys they recruited to fill the inside get hurt before they took a snap. That is just plain bad luck.

I actually like this d line. I think we lost some talent in Coe and Irving but we clearly made up for it as far as chemistry. Coe could actually be here if the group of players had voted him back. They voted against it.

I agree, I bet this d-line will play much harder than any that had Coe and Irving on it. I would rather have hard working slightly untalented guys that play hard every snap than talented lazy guys any day of the week.

Not that it matters, but not quite true. He was voted to be given a chance to come back as a walk on and declined.

Thanks for the thread OP. First I heard about who was gone and who was here.
