I watched Demarcus Phillips' play against Southwestern Illinois yesterday afternoon at SCC in a tournament. Here's what I've got on him:
Demarcus played almost exclusively at the 2 for MCC. He played the whole game except for maybe three minutes. Demarcus ended up with 27, and should have had more, but missed a ton of free throws. He is very quick, and very strong. Defensively, he has a tendency to occasionally miss a rotation, but made up for it with 5 (?) steals. He only shot once beyond the three point line, and was fouled on it, mostly b/c he didn't have too, as Southwestern Illinois, who was actually a solid defensive team, couldn't stop his penetration. He does have a tendency to occasionally play out of control, and had two travel penalties. Late in the game, with about 3 minutes remaining, MCC was down 8. They moved Demarcus to point, and just ran Iso's for him, and he scored 9 points in a row (Two straight and 1's, then fouled on a three) He brought them all the way back, and assisted on a basket with 20 seconds left to tie the game, but Southwestern Illinois managed to hit a bucket with 1.9 seconds left to win.
Edit: Demarcus also broke a guys ankles so bad he fell down. He did a hesitation move, then double crossovered back to the 18 footer, and the guy fell over that was guarding him
Best part of Demarcus game:
Strength
Athleticism
Quickness
Quick hands
Ballhandling
Ability to finish through contact
Rebounding, crashed from weakside multiple times and got put back
Weaknesses:
Can play out of control, sometimes not the best at moving w/o ball. Missed free throws.
And Will Clyburn is much, much improved....almost threw down the sickest dunk I've ever seen in person, very good defensively, very athletic. Still needs work on ball handling though.

Good Breakdown.. yes! Clyburn is alot better- reminds me of a Wesley Johnson type guy. CYISMYDOG, do you have alot of connection with MCC or did you just go for fun?

Thanks CyIsMyDog for the interesting and interestingly timed comment about Demarcus Phillips. I am thinking if we put this comment, with the info about who is waiting until spring and throw in HB's attire at the BB game Friday night we may have some answers to a question. Added to this feeling is the fact that Doug McD, decided to attend UNI. I guess I just wonder if he knows which way the wind is blowing. If Doug McD thought ISU was HB's destination, with all the implications involved, would not have been more tempting at least to be a walk-on(at the least) and enjoy all the fun!!! While I am sure
Harrsion Barnes was really impressed with all (most) that happened on Friday, I am thinking we are runners up. Maybe just a lot of isolated incidents but all added together...maybe not!!

This post by a very knowledgeable poster about ISU BB seems to say alot to me.

They're isolated incidents....you're reading way too much into it.

We know that everything you post is layered with conspiracies and a lot of reading between the lines. Why don't you just say what needs to be said?:jimlad:

Doug McDermott is NOT good enough to play at a major BCS program. He is not coming to ISU because he is not good enough. Just because his dad is the head coach, does not mean he even has a walk-on scholarships. He probably will not play much at UNI. Him going to UNI has nothing to do with Harrison Barnes. Barnes is also not coming to ISU. I can't wait for him to sign so every thing related to ISU basketball doesn't turn into a Harrison Barnes thread.

But what fun would that be?
And last I checked, the def. of a walk on meant no scholarship.

It might not be long before every ISU basketball thread gets derailed into a discussion of seeding possibilities, and talk of travel plans.

Just sayin'
Am I riding with you to the Final Four? My dad has tickets, but I don't want to put up w/ my little bro.

I don't have tickets, but I'm willing to make a deal.

I made it to the Final Four in 1989 (Thanks, Mom!!!), and I've been dying for it ever since. I would work overtime until it killed me to pay for that.

I mean, that sounds like an obsessive basketball fan. Wait, no, I would do it.
