There were several things I saw yesterday that I really liked. Our depth was the thing that I was most pleased with. At RB, Shontrelle was the feature back with White as backup. They both played great!! Then we got Woody as the power guy and Nealy & Standard in case anything happens. The O-Line got some backups in there that played well, despite allowing more sacks than we all liked to see... Deon Broomfield played alot more than I thought he would. He had a very nice game!! The D-Line played a whole lot of guys, and they all looked awesome!! Even the 3rd string guys played a hell of a game.

After watching Iowa struggle against a team who is probably just a little bit worse than Tulsa, I am going to say that we will beat Iowa next week. I know Iowa was on the road, and they will be at home against us, BUT... I loved what I saw out of our team yesterday. Jantz beat Iowa last year, and knows what to expect for the most part. If we can shut down Iowa's run and force Vandenberg to throw, then it's gonna be a long day for the Hawks... Vandenberg might just be the most overrated QB in the nation.

I think we will see a very different Iowa team come Saturday. I think we still have too much speed for them, but it will be hard fought. I hope Kinnick will be a ghost town come the 4th quarter.

I was pleased with ISU's performance and it sounds like Iowa's lacked but the one thing that keeps coming to my mind was a statement by CPR I think last year (when we scraped by UNI) he indicated an enormous development in a team occurs between game one and game two.

This, of course, not only applies to our Cyclones but the Hawks as well. There seems to be so many "missing pieces" identified in the Hawk's win that I can't help but think they'll be substantially better this weekend. Throw in the rivalry element and as usual, things can go either way. Turnovers, IMO, will be key.

Iowa's defense was really pretty good Saturday, outside of one 74 yd run by NIU. So IMO, we will be facing a much better defense next week than we saw this week. And the game is at Kinnick where we rarely have played well.

With that being said, however, Iowa's defense also wasn't playing against Shontrelle Johnson, James White, Jarvis West, and Steele Jantz either on Saturday. NIU had a QB that couldn't throw the ball at all.

I think this will probably be a tight game throught, but in the end we pull away because we are the better overall team IMO, and we have better depth too.

People who think this will be an easy victory are on drugs. With turn over somebody could pull away but other than that it will be a dog fight.

(1) The QB deserves more of the blame than the OLine.
(2) Not really, but interestingly enough ISU played before more fans than Iowa did.

SJ missed his blitz blocking assignment on one of the sacks. Will have to watch the replay to see who missed the rest of blitz pick ups.

My friend is a HUGE Hawkeye fan, who has never projected an ISU victory here. This time last week, he was saying Iowa would go 11-1. We watched both games on TV side by side this last week, and he doesn't want to watch the game with me next week. He said Iowa probably isn't winning this one.

Chicago is like Iowa City East! There are so many Hawkeye fans over there its ridiculous!

That being said, ISU plays as mistake free as we did against Tulsa and we should be able to get out of there with a big W and watch Iowa City start their complaining about it being our "Super Bowl", luck, etc.....

GO STATE!!
