I haven't seen this posted yet: http://spark.rstudio.com/jkatz/DialectQuiz/

The link takes you to a short 25 question (or the full 140 question version) multiple choice dialect quiz. It might tell you the server is overloaded, but it usually pops up after refreshing the page a couple times.

At the end, it gives you a dialect survey map showing where in the U.S. people speak more or less similar to you. Here is mine:

That was pretty cool :)

My five most similar cities - pretty accurate since #1 is probably the closest one they have to my hometown (not sure if they'd have Dubuque?) and I've lived very near two of the others.

Odd, considering I've NEVER lived in the area it says I most resemble. I've only lived in Long Island, NY, Washington, DC, Davenport/Ames, IA, and currently Clinton Township, MI.

Then again, when I look at the map, Ohio is lit up like a Christmas tree as well. Could have something to do with my parents' heavy New York dialect mixed with me growing up in Iowa

My most similar areas were pretty Missouri-y.... which is moderately frightening.

All of New England for dissimilar.

Most common with Madison, Milwaukee, and Green Bay Wisconsin, along with Provo, and West Jordan Utah.

Dissimilar to 5 places in the north east.

My most similar were the Twin Cities and Olathe/Overland Park. My least similar were Baton Rouge, New Orleans, etc and one place in New Jersey. I'm different than pretty much the entire south and the bottom 2/3 of the eastern seaboard.

I guess where I grew up dominates how I talk, although I've been in TX for 20 years.

Does everybody get the same questions? I was waiting for evening meal/dinner/supper question. Maybe that one is in the long version.

Des Moines for me.

It's funny though, I have a lot of family background from the upper east coast(Boston and Maine)
and feel as though I commonly have some affectations from those areas, but says I'm least like theses areas.
