I have lived in Missouri almost my entire life, but my wife has said that I sound like a southerner when I talk. When I went to Iowa State, people would ask if I was from the south. I guess it makes sense since Missouri is in the SEC now.

Apparently I need to move to Michigan. Although Iowa was the next state with the most red. And screw you Massachusetts.

You had more Michigan results than I did, and I've lived about one-third of my life in Michigan.

I got more Illinois than anything, although I've never been a resident. Apparently, I merged Iowa & Michigan dialect to an exact average.

Finally looked at the map.

How in the heck do I have the greatest match with Northern California, N. Nevada and Utah when I've never been to any of those places?

I guess I also have much more in common with Missouri than I thought.

how does no one have any similarities to MN? we are a lot closer to there than Chicago. and there should have been a "I saw" vs "I seen" question. that screams Missouri to me.

I've lived my whole life in central Iowa, so Des Moines makes a lot of sense. Utah on the other hand...never been. And no, I'm not mormon.

Based on everyones results, I'm guessing there isn't prolific use of the word "Fahkin" amongst the CF crowd.

Having lived in Utah for a couple years, I agree with the survey in that it is a very similar dialect (to Iowa) out there around Salt Lake City. I rarely found myself hearing people say things that I thought were odd.

Because this is a survey of American accents. To get Canadian accents you'll have to take another survey.
