Say what you want about the guy but he has been blasting ISU with praise ever since his visit to Hilton. Must have made a pretty good impression on him. This is what he most recently said... link below.

Keep an eye on these six surprise starts in college basketball - ESPN

"Iowa State: Fred Hoiberg's Cyclones won 20-plus games each of the past two seasons but were not expected to finish among the elite in the Big 12. The preseason prognosticators may have to think again, as Melvin Ejim & Co. have earned wins over Michigan and BYU. I cannot wait to see the Iowa-Iowa State showdown. It should be intense."

I was thinking the other night that Ejim is just as dreamy as Fred. I mean, have you ever looked at his eyes? Kid's gorgeous.

The Hoiberg dreamy thing is weird enough let alone start doing it with the players.

Speaking of Ejim, was he one of the players that did not have a great game (like he's capable of) vs. Iowa last season? Actually it might have been foul trouble. Maybe I'm remembering Clyburn who was shut down. But my question is this...do you think players recall those type of games and have extra motivation to do better the next time? Also, do you think coaches go to the film room and point out last year's weaknesses for that same reason, or is last year's performance not even discussed and its all about watching their scouted games from this year? Just curious as to if coaches even use previous bad outings to motivate for the future.

iowa runs same offense and defense as last year with same players so yes mayor will sit down with ejim and Niang and go over what went wrong last year. I remember that game well and luscious was a TO machine and our shooting was pretty bad not to mention ogelsvby had a career shooting night never to be seen again and he's out with injury so....

the key to us beating iowa is our defense and rebounding. If we can hold iowa from shooting well and rebound well then that doesn't allow them to run that press and we win. I don't see us shooting a ton of threes against Iowa and the reason for that is Iowa is a big, long team that can be difficult to shoot over AT times....with that said I do think iowa is vulnerable to dribble penetration from ejim, Kane and hogue and I think Iowa will have a hard time matching our quickness and general athleticism.

We just about had it all last year... foul trouble, sloppy passes/turnovers, not hitting shots. Credit some of that to Iowa's defense as the pressure did influence some of that but all around just a bad game by our guys early in the season. I think some of that will definitely be motivation for them. I don't know that you can compare last seasons team to this years team just because we are so different from a makup of what we can do this year compared to last. Our defensive make-up is different this year, we have experience on the ball so we should see less turnovers, we actually know what we have in Niang this year as last year he wasn't even starting if I remember correctly. Lots of differences. Plus Melvin has played against White from last year and also in the off season when he was with the Canada team so he has some more exposure to know what to expect out of him. I would be shocked the loss to the Hoks last year doesn't motivate Hoiberg and the rest of the team this year.... growing up in Ames, playing for ISU and now coaching here, you have to figure he wants to beat the Hoks about as bad as anyone.

This team is not last year's ISU team in chemistry or effectiveness this early. I think we can agree on that.

This team IS last year's Iowa team (literally).

We are #1 in nation in margin of victory.

Top 5 in points, rebounds and assists. Shooting over 50% from field on average. Defense efficiency in top 25 according to KenPom.

Consensus? We destroy the crows, drop them from the rankings, and send them home to EIU to live in shame for another year.

Clemmons killed us too. He couldnt throw the ball in the ocean prior to the game and came out on fire including several 3's.

Ejim did not have a good game against Iowa last season. If I remember right Percy Gibson and Georges Niang both had good games.

It's funny how people now suddenly love Vitale where as before they all thought he was a Dookie, and annoying! smh..

I think a lot of people are over-looking the 3 point shooting of Iowa this year.....even without Ogelsby. Their shooting has really picked up there the last few games, and they have hit 62/158 from behind the arc for 39.2%. ISU has shot 64/168 for 38.1%. Iowa has 4 guys (McCabe, GesellNow, Uthoff and Marble) who individually shoot 44% or better from outside. ISU has 3 shooters (Thomas, Long and Hogue) who individually shoot better than 40%.

ISU shoots a lot more of them, and makes more of them per game, but Iowa so far has shown a solid improvement in their outside shooting versus last year. Hopefully the ISU guards can hold them in check and send them back to their old ways of not being able to hit from outside.

This is not really the same Iowa team as last year. Last year, they were not really a threat from behind the arc. At the present time, that does not seem to be the case any more.

Yea their 3 point shooting has really improved lately. McCabe has been getting a lot of fouls lately though so that could affect his playing time if we can get into him early. Marble is going to take his shots regardless... If we can smother Gessell I think we can contain him. The question I would raise is how well will they be able to shoot it in a hostile Hilton atmosphere.
