Do ISU fans have a problem with MU?

Mizzou leaving the B12 was unfortunate for my family. In my family, most have degrees from either ISU or MU so those games were always fun to go to. Not to mention MU would have been our closest road trip. Like others have said, the move to the SEC was about the bruised egos of the political leaders and not really about what the fans wanted. I do think MU will occasionally make a bowl game in the SEC but basketball is a non factor in that conference. Of the teams that left, MU is the only one that I miss watching. I also hate TCU and MU is partially responsible for them getting in.

Wow, this is getting good. What we're getting told by several of you is that most Missouri fans didn't want to leave the Big 12, but powers they could not control made them leave. And then I guess we're supposed to believe that when their fans at the Big 12 tourney chanted "SEC, SEC, SEC," that indicated they were still loyal to the Big 12 and really wanted to stick around?

I never think too much about the Moos. But when I see them playing, I root against them. Screw those knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, cousin humping ship jumpers.

All I care about, is playing a fair game. I never complained with Missouri. These guys have other issues, but I would never treat a fan from another team poorly unless they deserved it. I was sitting at a game the other day, and the teams that were playing the fans were intermixed. One fan was constantly screaming and berating the referees. I thought a man, fan from the other team did right by telling the man to shut up.

I think fans need to be rabid, but at the same time good sportsmen. I complain about the refs when I think there is cause, but I wouldn't be obnoxious to another teams fans unless they start it. I don't know if you are legitimate or a troll. I have my doubts ISU fans would treat you the way you described. Could you send film, or pictures, proving your allegation?

I did see this first hand by some ISU fans and in a very mean spirited way.

I guess what I took away when I saw some random Mizzourah fans walking around P&L was they knew they were outsiders but wished they were still part of festivities.

I'm not going to berate them in public for what they did, it wasn't the fans fault. The big donors (Walmart money) pushed their administration and they took the soft landing spot. But I'm gonna laugh when Norfolkin' Way Pal State takes you out in the first round. And I'm gonna chuckle when you're walking around like lost puppy dogs at Big 12 events still trying to fit in.

Bet it wasn't quite like this in Nashville for the SECSECSEC tourney.

Mizzou leaving was felt by many as a betrayal. They were supposed to stick with their big 8 family. They pulled out the 'instability' excuse, when the big 12 was as stable as ever with everyone else being ready to sign a long term grant of rights that locks everyone in.

What really did it though was their behaviour at the big 12 tournament last year. Pulling the SEC SEC SEC crap. Completely classless.

That said, i'd take them back if they wanted to. I miss having them in the conference.

Completely agree with this. If you look through the threads many times you will see how proud we are when the top teams in the conference are the old Big 8 schools - that's why when MU left it hurt so much - however disfunctional we are family. While the Big 12 doesn't need MU if MU wanted to come back I would definately support the move.

I honestly have no problem with Mizzou. I wish they didn't leave but I understand why they did.

Man Tensas, you have a lot of hatred for this school. It's over, the Big XII is here to stay and not like it was last year when they left. In fact we're a better conference now and we showed that this weekend by STAYING IN KC. I admit some of their fans are ridiculous and I've never liked Mizzou, ever. But to go up to someone and be rude just because they are MU fans or moving the tourney out of the state is just dumb. KC is basically a KU basketball town anyway, so who cares what state it's in.

BTW I've had to deal with all three (KU, MU, and KSU) fan bases and I can say that after 15 years of it, KU is the worst. MU was horrible last year and that made a sour taste in everyone's mouth, but before that and even now they aren't that bad compared to the Beakers.

I've never understood the hate from some people (non ISU fans btw) for keeping the Big 12 tournament in KC. People said why have a conference tournament in a state that no conference team is in. As someone above posted, KC is more of a KU town than it is MU despite actually being in the state of Missouri. The Kansas border is literally minutes away from the Sprint Center and I believe KU (maybe even K-State too) is closer to KC than MU. I hope the Big 12 tournament remains in KC for a long long time. I believe the contract already goes through 2016 with KC's option to host it again in 2017. Hopefully it gets renewed again. I had a blast and probably wouldn't go to the Big 12 Tournament if it were anywhere else. Except Des Moines but we know that has as much of a chance as Iowa has to get into the NCAA this year.

With that attitude, we'd have no conferences.

If at the time when the Big XII was on the verge of implosion and we got a get out of jail free card to the Big Ten, 100 fans out of 100 would have chosen to take the Big Ten invite. Mizzou was just protecting themselves. Good for them for having that opportunity. Sucks for the Big XII and the old Big 8 but to think we wouldn't have jumped at a similar opportunity out of principle is stupid.

For the record I hate realignment and wish it didn't happen period. I think the reasoning behind it is short-sighted and will end up hurting collegiate athletics more than helping. Doesn't change the fact that it's happening and will continue to happen. That means schools will have to continue to protect themselves from being the last one standing in this stupid game of musical chairs.

Thing is, we are Big 12 and we should be proud of that. Really gets me when I see us separating the conference into two factions -- the old Big 8 and the Texas schools. We will end up dissolving if we look at it that way. It doesn't bother me at all that Mizzou left -- we found out who they really were, and how much they really cared about us. Wouldn't want them back in, or any of the others that hung us out to dry. "Don't let the door hit you on the way out" is my feeling about all of them.

I've only read the first two pages... but wow... surprised by the responses from my fellow Cyclones to a relatively nice post from an outsider. Typically I like to think of us as one of the nicest fan bases... I understand the frustration with Missouri, but if we're the only fan-base that was rude to them face to face and continue to support the OP's observation with our responses, I guess maybe we're not so nice.

And like I've stated. It's over, the Big XII is here to stay and there is nothing to worry about. Now if the Big XII fell and we went to the MWC it would be a different story. Let them go to the SEC and have fun there.

Since Mizzou left I've really become an Iowa St fan for Big 12 games. I like Fred Hoiberg and think his loyalty to his hometown and home school is an impressive thing that you have to root for. I went to see Iowa St play in Lawrence this year and the people in my section knew I was rooting for you guys.

I took my wife downtown today for lunch and to spend some time at the Big 12 tournament festivities. We're both Mizzou fans and with Mizzou playing today we had Mizzou shirts on. We saw quite a few Mizzou fans there. We had friendly conversations with fans of most schools but the Iowa St fans were the only ones who were rude to us. Explaining I was rooting for them did nothing. I knew kU was hated by you guys but was surprised to see me and my wife treated like a rival would be treated. Is there a big thing between you guys and us that I didn't realize? And again good luck tonight!!

I have somepersonal animosity towards your fan base that goes way back and is based onsome of the crude behavior of your “Antlersâ€￾ fan club. I would not treat you poorly but deep down Ijust cannot muster any love for your fan base.

Yes, I would be in favor of moving it out of Missouri. The Big 12 should have nothing to do with that state any more. Missouri "sec"eded from the Big 12, with no thought or care of how it would affect any of the other schools. It is a slap in our face to still hold our tournament there. If the SEC wants to hold their tourney in Missouri, fine.

I'm guessing that you are nearly alone in this.

To add to the discussion, I would never be rude to an opposing fan unless they did something first. Why would I criticize somebody for rooting for a school? I root for ISU but I don't expect everyone else to do it.

You can always find rude/idiotic fans anywhere you go. Don't assume entire fan base dislike your school because of your encounter with few individuals. If that was the case, I dislike every other schools except Iowa State.

On a side note: we successfully replaced MU in KU's most hated MBB team.

I tried real hard to root against Mizzou this year but I got bored very quickly and forgot about them. One of my friends is a Missouri fan, he supported the move to the SEC.
