You even bolded my sentence when I said "...when healthy". AA isn't healthy and he can't run the read-option effectively right now. Heck, ARob isn't healthy right now. AA and ARob were not healthy at times last year. When healthly ARob can rip off some yards, he still had a 1200+ yd season last year and AA ran for 500+ and I believe led QBs in rushing in the B12 last year.

Arnaud isn't good at running the read-option...healthy or not! He got most of his yards last year on scrambles. I don't really blame him because as far as I know he didn't run that in high school. It is something you need to practice over and over.

ARob is not the same back as last year. There is a huge difference between the way Johnson and Woody hit the holes compared to Robinson.

I think Herman implemented his offense and they are trying to get players for it. Last year, he tweaked it to be a run-first offense; based on the players we have. This year, the line isn't as good at run blocking; so they are struggling.

I totally agree with you! Also, I think another reason you are seeing us run the ball more than what Herman likes is because of CPR. I believe he knows his defense isn't good enough to go out and shut people down so we are playing a more time consuming style on offense. So maybe this is why the no-huddle but no hurry up.

I agree. chizdick did it with the defense and Rhoads is doing it with the offense. I have no issues with implementing a system and sticking with it. It is what programs are built on. See iowa, utah, TCU, OSU, TT,etc. People just need to understand that a system will limit success until it has its players. That is why I take it easy on AA as he isn't a good fit. Neither are our WRs or our OL. All of them are good enough running the system against equal or lesser talent. When we face better talent, the system will fail.
i do question Herman's play calling within the system but I will wait another year or two to determine if it is personnel or just his ability.

I am not sure we have enough team speed to run anything really well week in and week out against the schedule we play currently. That isn't a knock on our guys, I am not sure there is a team that could with the schedule we have this year. It really is amazing. I tell people about our schedule and they are amazed.

I like the offense, I just think we run too much underneath stuff and need to take more shots down the middle of the field. We do a lot of dinking and dunking on the underneath type of stuff that really doesn't get us anywhere. But maybe we are limited in doing that right now.

Also agree with the poster that said AROB isn't hitting the hole with as much burst as last year, I expect injuries are a big problem for him the last few weeks.

I am sure Austin's injury is probably cutting down how much he is running as well.

Could really use a bye week, and actually that is a big flaw in the scheduling, but I understand why it is that way right now. That goes away next year, and we will have a bye week again.

There are two ways to build a program.
  1. Implement systems and find players that fit that system.
  2. Change your system to fit the players.
I don't think there is a right or wrong way but I think you see more long term, sustained success with implementing a system and finding the players. Texas is a fine example right now. They are trying to convert back to a power running pro set type of offense and are not doing well. Even with the talent and athletes they have, changing systems takes time. I do think at ISU you have to have the ability to tweek your system because you won't consistently get "your" players. Similar to what OSU has done from last year into this year. McFarland did this in year two as well.

ISU's strength with this group is running the ball right now. Our qb (love him or hate him) is more of a pro-style qb. His best attributes don't fit this system. Our OL doesn't fit the system per what CPR and TH want. It seems that the OC should tailor the offense to fit the personnel.

Hopefully they can get/develop the players they want to run they system they want. If not they may end up changing the style or changing OC's in the future.
