Since I've gotten married:
2 German Shephards (7 years old and 4 months old)
1 Mini Dachshund (4 years old)
2 cats (8 years old and 5 years old)
1 guinea pig (2 years old)
Used to have a dwarf rabbit and a budgie (little parakeet)
3 daughters (6 years old, 4 years old and 2 years old)

I tend to think that my dog keeps things in perspective for me.
When things get complicated or overwhelming, he reminds me that sleeping, eating, playing and getting laid are the most important things. Everything else is trivial.
That and he listens well.
Food, Water, Frisbee, Floor… Small price to pay to keep a dog, and my sanity.

Yes, love the caring, warm, and fuzzy types of dogs. Hate the dogs that jump all over you, don't quit barking. Especially hate the tiny dogs that "yip" instead of bark, so annoying.

First of all, if kids are comparable to animals we disagree right away. There is no point in continuing.
Once, I had a hunting dog killed, ran over by my wife while I was hunting 3 miles away from my home over the crest of a hill. I cried. I love pets, I get way too attached to just take care of one to lose it in 3 to what ever years. I don't believe they should be disposable like that. There are too many irresponsible "trainers" out there that ruin it for the rest of the pet owners. There are too many issues that are beyond the topic of this thread.
Interesting point. Therefore, could we conclude that gingers don't like dogs? Not cool gingers, not cool.

I'm just pointing out that everything you said about pets could be said about kids.
I love dogs, grew up on a farm always had at least one around. Some of them are great others are a pain in the *** but still fun to have around especially on the farm.
I now live in town and have a Vizsla in the house. I love her to death, she's spoiled and is most definately a big part of my wife and I life together.
I dont like little yappy dogs, would never own one but I do know a few cute ones just not for me is all. I hate dogs that bark constantly. I Hate people that dont take care of their dogs and assume that chaining them up in the back yard for an hour is enough "exercise". If you are that strapped for time DONT GET ONE.
I respect those people who choose not to get a pet because they realize that they do not want or have the time to spend to care for them properly. Otherwise get a low maintenance pet like a goldfish or something that couldnt care less if you are around as long as it gets fed every couple of days.

^ How old is your female V? Mine still hasn't met another V in person yet (other than her litter mates/parents).
I grew up w/ 3 different boxers and they are amazing dogs. I wanted to try something different for my first personal dog, but I bet I'll have a boxer some day.

Newfies are great dogs, but man are they big. And this is coming from a guy with a lean 105lb German Shephard. My wife wanted to adopt a Newfie before we ended up getting our new German Shephard puppy, and that thing TOWERED over our older Shephard. We ended up having to give him back because he kept trying to assert dominance over our Shephard, which we didn't want. During a couple of their disagreements during the week we had him, our young kids got run over - not cool seeing 250+lbs of dog run through your 2 year old. Other than that, he was a very sweet dog and if circumstances are ever right we might look for one again.
I used to like pets. Now they strike me as little more than chores on four legs. Anyone want a boxer?
