OU is very likely to be in the CFP. And you have a damn short memory if you do not know our history prior to Campbell.
You’re an epic hypocrite. On page 29 of this thread, you disparage Earle Bruce for never defeating OU in his six years at ISU, specifically citing the 34-6 loss to Billy Sims and his 11-1 team in 1978. Yet a 50-20 loss to OU in year 8 of the Matt Campbell era is ok?

Anyway, I’m not anti-Campbell and you’ll not find a post from me calling for his dismissal, but I’m sick of the apologists. I’m out - loyal fan forever true, but not blinded to reality.

Seems I've struck a nerve with my post.

Yes, the athletic department does follow up with season ticket holders in club seating. Especially when they've had season tickets for a long period of time. His concern was that I hadn't inadvertently missed a deadline. Just a professional courtesy. He acknowledged my concern.

No, I don't expect JP to fire CMC over me dropping my season tickets.

Yes, they still have my contact information.

Get some self respect if you can't see how CMC is being disrespectful to you and the University.

Have a nice day.

Love Earle Bruce. I cited 1978 game because the Poster I replied to referenced they were at that game. I was at the 1978 game also.

Earle never defeated OU. That is just a fact. 34-6 just happened to be the score of the 1978 OU game. Another fact.

Quit being an ass. Although you do excel at it.

It's threads like this that make me consider why I've been on this website for 16 years. Dumb ******* arguments that never end. Negative people dig in further and can't wait to say I told you so. Supporters just beat a drum that's not needed.
People are insufferable quite often on the Internet.

You should change to either Chad or Karen DarkStar.

I said seven wins. Not sure who ever said 8 wins.

I have sat through games with Bruce, Duncan, Criner, McCarney, Rhoads and now Campbell as head coach.

I sort of even remember Johnny Majors as head coach

I have lived and breathed Iowa State football

And I still say 7 wins should be the floor.
Do you realize how unrealistic this is? That would require going to a bowl every single year - never failing to and actually a little better than that since only 6 is required to go to a bowl.

Here are the current top bowl streaks:
Georgia - 26 (went 6-7 in 2010) so 12 years
OU - 24 (went 6-7 in 2022) so 0 years
Wisky - 21
Bama - 19 (went 6-6 in 2004 and 6(vacated)-7 in 2006) so 16 years
Clemson - 18 (went 6-7 in 2010) so 12 years
Okie St - 17
Miss St - 13 (went 6-7 in 2016 and 2019) so 3 years
tOSU - 10
Memphis - 9 (went 6-6 in 2021, bowl cancelled) so 1 year
Kentucky - 7
UCF - 7 (went 6-7 in 2016) so 6 years
Wake - 7

Dude, that is only 12 teams that have gone 6-6 or better to get to a bowl in the last 7 years. And only 8 that got to 7 wins every year in at least the last 7 years even if we exclude the COVID year.

Everybody except for a very, very, very few have down years.

You have an incredibly short memory…Does OU 50-20 qualify as “in it”. IMO, they called off the dogs or it would have been worse…
I can recall 4 games during Campbell's tenure that we were never in and looked ugly. There are some other disappointments, but These ones left a bad taste in your mouth:

2016 @ Iowa
2019 Camping World Bowl vs Notre Dame
2022 @ TCU
2023 @ Oklahoma

2018 @ Iowa should probably make the list, too.

Regardless, 4 or 5 games over 8 years is pretty damn good given our history. We should be working to build the program up, and I believe we are headed in the right direction, but it doesn't happen overnight, and their are going to be setbacks. With the new Big XII I think we have a perfect opportunity ahead of us and Campbell is a great coach to be leading the team right now. Really I think we're in a good spot with leadership in the athletic department as a whole.

I know a lot of us are looking at Purdy, Hall, DM, AL in the league saying, “why didn’t we do more with those guys when they were here??”

I’m seeing their success and the leaders they all are and feel proud and thankful. MC is focused on shaping men, and coaching football. Sometimes in recent past frustratingly in that order.

But I believe his/his staff’s leadership is a big part of why all of those guys are having the careers they are. And I’m confident those players would say the same.

Maybe I am looking at things with rose colored glasses, but I am very excited for the next 5-6 years of ISU football. I think that this program will make some massive progressions with this new B12 schedule and continue to bring in good recruiting classes. CMC has proved he is eventually willing to make adaptations, tweaks, and changes when needed. Obviously we are far from perfect, but its progress.

FFS, can you imagine being UI right now? Having a coach that hasn't changed much in 24 ish years, and now your schedule gets immensely harder? Ooof.

What always gets missed when people beef about the lack of success with that talent is that none of that talent was on the O-line. People get sick of hearing that it all starts in the trenches but it is also true. If you don't have a credible O-line it negatively impacts both the running game and the passing game. How often did David or Breece have to dodge a tackler before they even hit the line of scrimmage? How often did Brock have to dodge a sack before his secondary or tertiary route had time to develop? You can't look at a few players in a vacuum.

It's nice to see David Montgomery play behind an offensive line for the first time in his career (post high school anyway).

They might be feeling good because they know Captain Kirk will retire soon, and now Barta won't be making the hire. I don't like to admit it, but it is an attractive job in CFB. It' scary to think about what a coach with any kind of dynamic game plan could do for them.
