Where would he go? Back to the Mac?
When you go 46-41 at one of the ten toughest jobs in P5 you are going to have options. I would be shocked if he is not back but the criticism of MC this year is the reason why coaches rarely stay in a job for 10+ years anymore. A down year after 5 consecutive bowl games and you got 5-10% of the fanbase thinking they would be better off without him.

There is a rule in manufacturing engineering that defects are not random and are not caused by simple mistakes; for every error, there must be a systemic adjustment to programming, tooling, methods, training, materials. Campbell says otherwise - that mistakes just happen and let's hope that they magically go away on their own.
This is a great analogy. The laziest Root Cause/Corrective Action combo you can see is:
Root Cause = Operator Error, Corrective Action = Updated work instructions/training.
This ensures you will see the defects come back. The hard work is figuring out how to change the process or possibly even the product design to figure out how to eliminate the human error factor. I will remain optimistic that during the season they don't have the time for the deeper analysis but they now have enough evidence that they will take that next level of analysis during the off-season to come up with some real corrective actions.

I mean... isn't this exactly what he's doing lately? Saying that we're failing to execute is essentially putting it 100% on the players. When he says, "We think we're making the right calls, but are failing to execute!" he is essentially saying that the coaches are making the right calls and preparing properly, but the players aren't following through.

What do you want him to say? Specific players names? Jfc they are failing to execute. We have 3 more wins at a minimum if they execute. KU, OSU, Texas, KSU were all execution issues.

It is not just 'one' down year. If that was the case I think almost everybody would be more understanding (I certainly would be). But it is actually two down years in a row. Cannot state last year was not a down year when we started the year ranked in the Top 10, had numerous NFL guys (Purdy, Hall, Kolar, Allen, McDonald, X, etc..) and then finished 7-6. An honest review of last year would indicate we significantly under-performed expectations. Which also what is happening this year (personally I expected 6-6 with improvement shown from beginning to end which unfortunately we have not seen) as we will finish 4-8.

We will now get to see how good a coach CMC really is - at this point, I am not sure which way this thing is going to fall out.

Yea I get he will have options, but where is he going to go? Cal? Virginia? Those don’t seem like places he will jump to. The Notre Dames, Michigan’s, and Ohio States aren’t going to come calling for Matt at this point.

Does anyone really believe he would stand up and say our offense sucks, I am going to have major changes in our staff and our scheme doesn't work?

Good for him to stay with coach speak. It is shocking that some of you actually think u are pointing something out that he doesn't understand. Hilarious, actually.

BTW, he is correct in his answers. "The play was the right call and execution was bad." You could actually say that about any play that doesn't go for a touchdown. Is it truthful, yes. Does it reflect reality, no. Get used to it. Coachspeak is never going away, especially during a season.

Some of you armchairs need to relax. Your desire to show how u know what is best in a masked thread for him, his staff and the team is bizarre.

What a waste of time. Maybe the joke is on me for even reading 20% of this thread...... Lol.

The biggest problem is year 1 problems remain evident in year 7.

This entire season, a year of development and experience, was WASTED on the offensive side of the ball.

No noticeable changes or modifications, no new wrinkles or strategies.

Just try the same crap over, and over, and over. Even though it isn't working.

Same scared offense in the Red Zone, and untrustworthy kickers now.

Once again, another year WASTED with underperformance.

Thanks MAC Matty. I hope you enjoy the $9million you pocketed.

Honest question.

How bad does it have to get for you to admit this offense has severe problems and something is very, very wrong with ISU football?

I mean, do you enjoy predictable and repetitive playcalling?

Do you cheer when plays are called that instead of taking advantage of the opponent's weakness, they stress Iowa State's?

Do you think trying to run a lesser form of Hawkeye Football, with fewer resources, worse media coverage, and limited recruiting influence is a smart strategy, considering ISU is operating in Iowa's shadow?

Iowa State doesn't come out and try to roll anyone. First half is play it safe, don't show too much, and hope it is close enough that winning the second half wins the game. So predictable. And our opponents have adjusted.

They simply do it better than us now, which is why they are winning.

7-6 and playing Clemson in a bowl game is not a true “down year.” If we get to a bowl game every year then that is an accomplishment.

At some point can a mod put this guy/girl in timeout.

You've been unsatisfied since year 1 and you're still here complaining? I think this might be a you problem.

Whar Tech and to a lesser degree OU?

Split those games and it's a very nice season. But, it's who ISU is.

It may not have been a "down" year.......but it was certainly bordering on underachieving.

And I'm not so sure bowl games should be defined as accomplishment's anymore considering there are some entertaining the thought of inviting teams that have 5-7 records. Taking 6-6 is bad enough..........but 5 wins?

You go with a winning record then congrats......otherwise?
