Is Malo back to being good again after the shutdown/sale/reopening? It steadily declined until it was almost complete trash before they announced the closure.
We went about a week ago and enjoyed it. But we went right before it closed and liked it then too, so I don’t know if I agree it went downhill. It is one of our go to places downtown and we enjoy it. Sounds like YMMV

Hard to go wrong with Centro or Django. Oak Park is speedy, but excellent.

I agree with most things mentioned, I’d add Harbinger if you’re willing to go to Ingersoll and Table 128 on the south edge of downtown.

I get around
I really like Mullberry Street Tavern

I haven’t been, but Oak Park is the new restaurant on Ingersoll
I’ve hear really good things, but it’s also super fancy/spendy
Would be worth the short Uber I’d think

I like Mulberry Street Tavern also, it's only about three blocks from the Marriott. It's on the ground floor of the very nicely restored Surety Hotel building. It was named as one of the 50 most beautiful restaurants in the US by People Magazine as described in the below article in the DSM Register.

We really liked Bar Nico in East Village. Also, Centro, Americana, and Oak Park are all great.

I really like Django and the no corkage fee. Get some good oysters, bring in your own pricy wine and it's a great night.

gotta throw Proudfoot & Bird on a list of fine dining in DSM, don’t we?

I ate Friday at Lua Brewing. It was very good. The soup we had was excellent. They are supposed to be a hidden gem for soups.

Tupelo Honey is a great spot also. Southern comfort food.
I've been to Tupelo Honey a couple times, and I've never been impressed. Don't get me wrong, it's fine. But a place like Bubba outclasses it in every way, for the same style of food.
