Straight from Motorola:

Droid X actually self-destructs if you try to mod it

Face it, if Apple tried this, the anti-Apple guys here would be all over this. But this isn't Apple, its a sainted Android phone. Is that crickets I hear chirping?

I am convinced most Anti-Apple folk are broke-*** tools that need to convince themselves that they are indeed relevant in the world.

I guess I don't understand the ******* matches on Android vs Apple. To each their own. Personally I have a Droid inc, but could care less if the guy next to me has a iPhone. I didn't get an iPhone simply because of the network.

Yes, that's clearly what they are.
Thankfully someone finally speaks the truth.

It's clear that Apple is superior, and that's why their software and hardware runs everything in the world, and, therefore, it must clearly be the anti-apple people who are not relevant in the world.

It's not like Apple hasn't intentionally bricked iPhones through software updates in the past...

The last thing I would ever buy is a cellphone. And when I am forced to get one when the landline is declared dead, no way in hell will it be an iPhone or a Droid. I'll just get a phone.

But, because the anti-apple people are so convinced that Apple is the epitome of evil, I will continue to bash the hell out of them.

You don't own a cellphone, yet you're chiming in on a cellphone thread?? Sounds like you may be the irrelevant, broke-*** tool.

Apple fanboys are tools. So are the people who find everything Apple does to be offensive.

Let's face it. Apple has made the smartphone mainstream. And, for casual users, the iPhone is probably the best device out there. I love the iPhone, and would love to have one, but I refuse to accept AT&T's crappy service. Also, the current problem with hardware design has really hurt them, as it should.

Apple does good things. So does everyone else. I'm just as sick of the anti-Apple talk as I am sick of the Apple fanboys.

There are a lot of phones. Pick one that suits your interests the best.

Not having a cellphone is a lifestyle choice, brother. I'm chiming in against the anti-apple freaks who, quite predictably, would be all over Apple's *** if they were the company to cause a phone to kill itself if tampered with.

Keep in mind, this was done by Motorola, not Google. If this happened to the iPhone, there would only be Apple behind it given that they make the phone and the OS. HTC, Samsung, LG, et al. have Android phones without this efuse. If the efuse technique happens in the future across all manufacturers I expect there will be outrage, but for now this news was available before the phone arrived so the people that are concerned with modding could look elsewhere.

Want an iPhone 4G without the antenna issue? Can't do it right now. Want an Android phone that you can hack? Feel free to choose from about a half dozen that have come out this summer. I'll avoid the obvious pun and say it isn't a fair comparison.

I wouldn't mind Motorola being taken down a notch over this whole thing. Android is supposed to be an open platform, so I don't like this move on principle alone. Besdies, I'm still holding the Razor against them.

Someone gets it. Android saved Motorola, but now they go and do something stupid like this.

Hopefully it's not the future of smart phones, I could see this catching on as the carriers try to tighten down their control over the phones and manufacturers. One thing none of the carriers has been very friendly on as far as I know, perhaps t-mobile.

Why do they really even care about this stuff? I mean, what is the % of phones that are actually hacked....its gotta be miniscule in the grand scheme of things.

Also, I'd bet they sell a few extra phones whenever some moron tries to hack his phone and turns it into a paperweight.
