Dune Universe Thread

Dune Part 2 streaming on Max starting today. They have both new movies, 1984, and the Jodorowsky doc for any super nerd marathons.

Finally got around to streaming Dune II. Being a sci-fi/fantasy guy I of course liked it. Thought the final confrontation scene seemed a little rushed (weird for me to say since the movie is 3 hours long). And could have done without casting Christopher Walken as the Emperor. Found that to just be distracting.

Has anyone seen the Max Dune Prophecy series yet? If so, thoughts? I've been meaning too, but current working through some other shows before I get to it.

I haven't. I should at some point.

I've always loved Emily Watson (who rocked in Chernobyl a few years ago, another HBO series).

Mark Strong as the Emperor sounds like better casting than Christopher Walken -- I like Walken, but I felt he was too old and frail for the part. Shaddam should have been grand but obnoxiously arrogant.

...which I could have seen Strong perfectly nailing.

Disclaimer that I haven't read the books yet and have only seen the new movies. Dune Prophecy was a bit of a mixed bag for me, but in the end I liked it overall.

It had stretches that felt like maybe too much was being introduced, but by season's end they wrapped up/teased enough to satisfy for a first season. From what I read online, book readers maybe enjoyed some of the concepts that I thought were "too much" for the show. Some really interesting performances, others meh. Some really great visuals/CGI, others meh.

All that said, I still plan to read the books, catch Dune 3 in theaters and watch season 2 of Prophecy (which I think has been confirmed or at least rumored).

edited to add: I realize this is pretty general/vague. Just wanted to avoid spoiling anything :)

It was good. The ending seemed like it was unnecessarily not wrapped up waiting for a second season that is a long time off.

Also, the mannerisms and speech of Desmond Hart’s character were too similar to his character in Vikings. I half expected him to say that his true name was Ragnar Lothbrok and he was taken from his home world of Earth.

Finally getting around to reading the series and my goodness, I might be in love. I'm halfway through book one (Paul just bested Jamis and took his name Paul-Muad'dib). Thoroughly enjoying it so far.

I'm about 1/4 through Children of Dune on my first read through. Only regret is not having more free time to read. Really looking forward to Part Three

Hoping to have the main six done by the time this movie releases, then probably onto another genre for a bit. Any of the "non-main books" stand out in particular?
Oh I haven't gone further than Messiah. I took some time off of Dune after finishing that one. Got burned out on it all. Might jump back in after my "to be read" pile is emptied out.
