Biggest quake in 250 years out there. Not something that would cause much concern in a lot of places, but the NE isn't exactly built with earthquakes as the top concern. Anything built in the last 20 years should have no problems. Anything older still should be good up to a mag 6.

Well...the Weather Channel quit covering weather this morning to cover the earthquake...so either there is no weather happening...or the earthquake gets better ratings! Not complainig...I am fascinated by watching the coverage of both topics...and learning about them.

I get it. It's just funny watching all the national news outlets (East Coast) devote nonstop coverage to it. The one that hit the Virginia/DC area in 2011 was 5.8.

The 4.8 was was due to Christie falling out of bed. Nothing to be alarmed about.

On one hand, when it rains in NYC, everyone in the country has to hear about it.

On the other, if you aren't used to earthquakes I can imagine it is pretty unnerving. We felt one in central Iowa about ten years ago (originating in Oklahoma, I think) and while it was very minor and I wasn't in any danger, it was one of the most unsettling feelings I can recall.

I have a bunch of co-workers in Philly, on a call this morning they were all asking each other if they felt it. Western suburbs didn't, those close to downtown Philly did.
