it's pretty obvious that Coach Fennelly has been a different person on the bench this year than last year. He has been calm, upbeat, encouraging in his interactions with players.

That's my impression, too. When Schroll left, everyone knew why. I think that may have at least help prompt him to tone down that intensity (to put it nicely) that he'd been known for.

I agree with everything else in this post as well.

It is clear that something is not good in the program of late....hopefully coach can turn it around in regards to keeping recruits.

Well we did just hit the end of a semester, are we sure this is even basketball related?

So for every 1 player that leaves, how many stay 4-5 years and contribute to a lot of successful teams?

Some of you should keep your uninformed opinions to yourselves.

These kids know what they're getting with Coach...They see him in games, practice, and off the court before they commit. He doesn't really have to much too hide. If they can't handle that type of coaching I don't think they would commit. Schroll is the only one that comes to mind because of this lately. Harris was a complete whiff and couldn't handle D1 ball. The JUCO from Oklahoma missed home. Arlen, Yackly, & Rockall wouldn't have played much. It's all relative. I wonder if we will ever find out if why this has happened.

This is the post by rbingley that makes me wonder whether Emiah was not satisfied with her role:

Re: Twister Sister Summary - Western Illinois observations
In reply to post: "Emiah needs to find her shot,"
rbingley wrote: "A light cannot illuminate a room if the switch has been turned off!!"

Evenso, here is a later, longer post that seems to suggest, at least from her dad's perspective, that she was looking forward to her role:

As has been said, may never know.

Oh sorry...we won't be able to replace the 2.7 assists per game either

Not a bad average for a backup PG.

The problem this season is we have nobody to replace her. Kidd is now our backup PG. Brynn is our only other guard who didn't start at ISU as a walk-on. Ellis is listed as a G/F, but I think of her as a 4.

Buckley and Johnson can't get here soon enough.

Exactly. It's not like she was playing full games. And since it's mid-season, no, we can't replace the 2.7 assists per game. She would have likely improved over the next 3 years, too...so that's something we also have to replace, too.

ALLN4ISU is either a troll, a moron, or both.

Fennelly is becoming the problem, he is way overboard on criticism. I sit behind the bench on games I can make and wow he is just to hard on young kids. Kids of this age are not what they used to be. Wish her the best of luck, but this is not a good thing for our program folks.

It's difficult to judge what may have been happening based upon her father's comments here. For all we know, it was the academic part of Iowa State that she didn't like and wants a better fit for her education with basketball considerations being secondary.

I have to say I'm very surprised and disappointed with this development. Best wishes to Emiah, wherever she ends up playing. Sorry we didn't get to know you better!

My point was that I don't think the transfer is going to change the season as the original reply to a poster saying it would. Fennelly will adjust the rotation to adapt to the players he has. Since Moody has been back Bingley's minutes have gone down and he points/assists have decreased with playing time. In the Iowa game she was one of the reasons we spotted the 2 touchdowns to start the game. Every year there are transfers on the women's basketball team and yet the team finds its way to the NCAA tournament so my point again was that the season isn't lost.

Hagedorn has some skills, and might just be able to provide some quality minutes at guard. She has experience, not division 1, but something to build from. Just like Jocelyn Anderson rose to the occasion in the post when pressed into service after Wieben's injury, let's hope Hagedorn steps up.

Will she replace what Emiah could have offered? No. But frankly if Emiah was not happy (for whatever reason), who knows how productive she would have been.
