Wonder if this was Emily's breakout game. 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steels, 1 blocked shot and no turnovers in 22 minutes of PT. Bill is giving her more minutes and she is responding. I hope it continues; I have long felt that she just needed to break out and she could become one of our better players. She is smart and works hard.

She sees the floor really well. She definitely has a high BB IQ. She has sometimes tripped up with mental mistakes, but the added dimensions she adds to the team seems to be well worth it. This team needs to take some risks, and she seems like a good bet.

Kidd's single basket in the 1st quarter is probably enough to keep Durr on the bench.

Okay, being a smart-*** here but she has had good games before and might see reduced minutes 3 or 4 days later. Just seems odd especially with Kidd struggling in conference play (shooting 23% from the field).

This. perhaps because Kidd is a senior, Idk. But I for the life of me cannot understand why CBF yanks most of the players if in his mind they screwed up so bad they need to go to the bench. I can't imagine knowing if I make an errant pass, miss a rebound or whatever that I will be going out. I say this I think Durr is one of them. There is plenty of talent out there, just short a Poppens type player. Go Cyclones.

I love watching Em play. I've been hoping she would get a chance and she showed up today. I'm being nit picky here, but the main area of improvement I see is mainly in taking care of the ball better. Threw some high risk passes and got caught by the defense a few times. But that's being picky.

Durr should definitely see more minutes on the floor. She has proven she can play well at this level. She's earned it, imo. Her time at PG reminds me of Aus a bit in that she dribbles a lot with her back to the hoop (not quite as much as Aus did). I know that drives some nuts, but it helped Aus from getting her pocket picked and it seems to serve Durr well also.

Also, as the post player with the most experience, Baier should be seeing more floor time as well. 5 minutes a game is not enough when they are as thin under the basket as they are. She's a big body who plays good D and can actually make a basket or two when given the chance.

I think Baier is working her way back into shape to play more than a couple minutes. Remember she thought that she had a season ending knee injury and had not practiced since until a week or so ago.

In the Ames Trib, there is an article on Durr's performance.

CBF said:
“She’s not the defensive presence that Kidd is at times, but 10 points in the first half is good. She hit some big shots.
“You’re always looking for that extra player to score when someone else isn’t. That’s her skill set. Emily’s skill is to make shots, and we need her to make some to be successful.”

IMO Em is doing a good job on the defensive end of the floor as well. In addition to the stats above, she had only 1 foul. She seems to be bringing a complete game onto the floor, not just scoring potential.

“She was a big, big part of what we did early,” Fennelly said. “She had 10 points at half, but struggled in the second half.”

The Utica, N.Y., native finished the first half 3-of-6, and finished the game 3-of-8. She played just 22 minutes. It was her eighth career game scoring in double figures, while also recording a career-high three steals.

Fennelly was pleased with her overall effort, but wants her to carry that performance over the course of an entire game.

In the 15-20 minutes of scattered court time that he may give her. :twitcy:

Yeah, she only played like 7 minutes in the 2nd half. Shrvmay not of score but she had a couple steals and an assist in that time.

Kidd in 30 minutes,

3points, 1 for 6 shooting, 2 rebounds, 0 assists, 3 fouls, 4 TOs, 1 steal.

Emily in 22 minutes,
3 for 8, 3 rebounds, 1 foul, 2 assists, ZERO TOs, 3 steals.

Math doesn't lie. Who needs to be more consistent coach?????

She certainly must be mentally tough to be able to deal with the way she gets playing time.

When I started this, I was not arguing for or against Emily to start, nor for or against Kidd to start. Sometimes, players do their best off the bench. Kidd is a senior, and probably brings something to her team that does not show up in the stats. However, Kidd did seem to be a better shooter when she came off the bench.

For Emily Durr fans, here is a nice article from the Ames Trib by Cody Goodwin:
http://amestrib.com/sports/women-s-basketball-team-comedian-durr-seeks-capitalize-opportunity

Makes you like her even more

Amid the struggles this season, there are times when the Iowa State training room can be wound pretty tight with stress. Women’s basketball players might come in on edge unknowingly, only to unravel after Emily Durr slips a witty joke or one-liner into casual conversation.

“There’s a lot of truth to that, actually,â€￾ point guard Jadda Buckley said with a smile. “She always has a very interesting comment to throw out there. It cracks us up.â€￾

...

Durr’s injury is just a small part of a laundry list of obstacles the Cyclones have faced this season. Through it all, she’s kept her smile and witty attitude. It’s rubbed off on her teammates — especially those who have needed it.

“It was really different,â€￾ Lexi Albrecht said of her return to the team after her older sister died in December. “I had a hard time. I was really worried I wasn’t going to be myself. But it’s hard to not be myself when I’m sitting next to Emily Durr, who’s Ms. Comedian on the bench.â€￾

...

Her teammates certainly appreciate it, and Durr definitely loves the title. She’s glad she can be a source of relief and inspiration during a season that might make any other team outwardly frustrated.

“It’s good to know that other people think I’m funny, too,â€￾ she said. “Yeah, I guess I am the team comedian.â€￾
