Well apathy hasn't set in at least. The morning after and we have adults calling each other idiots about a close loss to a team that has some quality wins and terrible losses.

That game sucked. The team that win's the Big 12 won't lose at a mediocore Baylor team. I just keep hoping this team will show the toughness to win on the road. And no, beating the worst team in the league (OSU) on the road doesn't prove anything.
Is it a season ending loss? Nah. But it proves that at best this team is a mid-pack team. It does not appear to be a real threat to win the conference regular season. Which is disappointing - the talent and depth to do so is certainly there.

Why on earth would anyone sign up for 2-1? OSU is the worst team in the league, Baylor is a bottom 3rd team, and we should ALWAYS expect to beat every team at home. I expect to beat teams we are better than; thus 3-0 was the very clear and logical expectation.
I sure did! He was on his game last night, offense should have run through him last few minutes, not a freshman throwing up desperation threes and NWB driving like he was Mike Gessell and getting stuffed by the backboard.
Agree. In a likely peak year, it should not be too optimistic to start 3-0 against two teams likely at the bottom of the conference and a Doke-less KU at home.
This team has the talent to have expected to beat that Baylor team in Waco. This isn’t the the Baylor teams from a few years ago. It’s not a big deal to lose, but it definitely was a missed opportunity due to not yet being as fundamentally sound as hoped. That, and some typical road calls and Baylor having their normal peak game.
I understand your logic I am honestly just surprised most people wouldn't have taken 2-1. I know I would have. Winning on the road is really hard and we've had great teams lose to KU at home
All debatable on what will happen/starting lineups, but 40% of our starters(currently) are freshmen is not.
Why would this team not be expected to challenge for the regular season title? The team has talent and depth across all positions. And length and size to play high level team defense. The conference is down, and I would argue that Iowa State has the most talent in the league this season. Beat the teams you're supposed to, it's that simple. That includes all games at Hilton and the majority on the road this year.
The perception for what level ISU basketball is at, is very skewed these days.
And those freshmen aren’t having ups/downs. One is always up, the other the same game to game.
This isn’t the 1980’s. We have one of the most experienced teams in the conference, if not the country. Our ups/downs or lack of toughness isn’t due to youth or inexperience.
We haven’t started 3-0 in what? 2 decades? Ya that’s the expectation. I break the conference season down in to 4 mini seasons. Start 3-1and that is awesome.

The real meltdown has become the group like jsb and madguy that cannot handle any criticism. They are so insecure about the program they started their meltdown on Monday this time.
The team blew it, plain and simple last night to a lower tier team on the road. They shot poorly and didn't get it done down the stretch. Very similar shooting performance to OSU. The difference? In the OSU game, ISU played more poised down the stretch, made plays just to have a little more comfortable separation when OSU couldn't score. Was it ugly? Yes. But, who cares? It got the W.
Still, at the end of this game, the guys had their chances. Our players didn't get enough separation to go on a late run and win. Also, I think a huge call in the game was the ******** "tie-up" late after we had the rebound. That should have been a reach-in foul on Baylor and could have swung the game in our guys' favor. I mean, the guy reached in for less than a second, and the zebra blew the whistle in their favor after a clear rebound by ISU. That was a HORRIBLE call and it helped Baylor in a critical moment. It's still our players fault they were in a close game at that point to begin with though.

We basically had 3 more or less toss-up games and won the most important of the three for the resume. You're either lying to yourself or your expectations are unrealistic if the morning of the game in Stillwater you wouldn't of taken a 2-1 start.

2-1 in every 3 game increment is 12-6, that isnt getting it done, now we have to go 3-0 in a tougher stretch of 3 games to contend for a championship.
Last time I check we are just a game behind Tech and they have played 2 at home already and struggled in both.

Texas who blows out KSU loses at OSU, last time I checked ISU won there.
2-1 to start the year I am fine with, 2 road games and KU at home, is a tough start to the season.
Right now nobody has a clue what the future holds. You assume Baylor is terrible, maybe they are, but they also seem to have talent to beat some teams, They competed very well on the road against TCU, who was picked to finish higher than ISU this year. Could be they are finding their game. Certainly they shot their free throws a lot better last night and probably is why they won.
Since the conference is considered the #1 RPI, Massey and others. Given its a round robin conference you are going to face all teams on the road (unlike the Big 10 and others which allows you to dodge teams) . It stands to reason every game is probably going to be a challenging one especially on the road. And nobody, including you or I can predict just because you lost at Baylor doesn't mean you cannot win at Texas ,KSU, TCU,, heck I think WVU is an easier win opportunity than Baylor was.
Match ups matter and if teams have some talented bigs in the paint, Iowa with Cook, and Garza gave them fits. And with Lard going out last night probably makes it all that much tougher.
I mentioned this in another thread, I believe we have 1 win at Baylor since a Marcus Fizer led team pummeled them in the late 90's,

It has proven to be a difficult trip add in ISU just had an emotional game against the kings of the conference, not all that surprising. ISU lost and they did give themselves a chance to win.
Thinking the winner of the league will go 12-6 or maybe 13-5, aside from Tech everyone has a loss. And OSU, KSU, WVU already lost at home. Would submit ISU is in a better position than most.
Even with the loss last night, its still a heck of a lot more fun than last year, well at least for some of us. .
13-5 or 12-6 probably wins the league this year, no great team lots of very good ones.
