The thing I loved most about Pete, was exactly word for word what Kevin Cooney said in that article. Without question, within the first 5 seconds of a broadcast, you knew if we were winning or losing. Pete wore his heart on his sleeve, and we should all strive to have the passion he did. He is truly missed and Cyclone Nation hasn't been the same since.

John Walters is great, but no one is Pete Taylor and no one expects him to be, we haved been graced with GREAT announcers here at Iowa State who've made some classic calls. I feel sorry for myself when I used to follow iowa as a kid (a young, ignorant kid in eastern iowa mind you) and had to listen to gary dolphin (ugh city)

Boy I've lurked this website for a couple of weeks now, this thread really struck me enough to register and post.
I was @ the FSU game, Texas Tech, Nebraska, and a couple others. I downloaded those tributes to Pete shortly after he died. Being @ those games I never heard Pete call them. My favorite is the Nebraska game when he says, "this may not be the Nebraska of old, but it's the Cyclones of new."
Of all the games I've been to in Jack Trice that Nebraska game was my favorite. Listening to those tributes bring back the emotions and images to me every time I hear them.

Great Thread!!

thanks

Pete Taylor ...... and Eric Heft, are Iowa State athletics moreso than Johnny Orr, Larry Eustachy, Dan McCarney, etc., etc.

Totally agree. Pete Taylor loved ISU and ISU loved Pete. No matter what was happening, we could always rely on Pete to tell it like it was and to get us through to the next game. I like and respect John Walters, but there was only one Pete and it hasn't been the same since he's gone. Pete Taylor justifiably has a banner hanging in Hilton. He was perhaps the greatest Cyclone of them all.

Chokes me up a bit writing about him too.

Great thread. I was just thinking about Pete this morning. He was the glue that kept the athletic dept. together. I'm glad I had an opportunity to meet him.
