K-State fans break College GameDay attendance record:

TheMercury.com - K-State Sports Article

8100+ attendance for ESPN GameDay...

I know there have been threads about K-State recently, but this articles proves how much they really have things rolling down there as far as a basketball program with support is concerned. Wow. I just wish it was us that had things rollin' so we could be doing things like this.

They really had a great atmosphere down there today.
I know this would never happen in Hilton, but I thought it always looks sweet on tv with KSU's student section taking over one whole side of the arena, especially the side that is always on tv.

I wonder how many people we could get if college gameday came to Hilton and we were ranked 13th and Iowa was coming in ranked 2nd.

That's interesting to think about. I know that I would be there and I have a feeling that we could draw an enormous crowd. Record breaking..? Maybe, maybe not.

KU bussed quite a few students to Gameday... this was the equivalent of 2 gamedays since there were two fanbases there.

Would be great to be at a point someday that Gameday came to Hilton; would be crazy!

To put things in perspective; UK has already "sold out" Rupp for Gameday 2/13. The 24K+ vouchers have been requested for the AM taping and everyone will have to be cleared out before gametime.

That being said, I've been to many games at Rupp and while it is great, it has never been as loud as I've heard Hilton when it gets going. Haven't been back to Hilton since 006 but wore that place out between 1999 and 2003.

No they didn't. There was a rumor before gameday that KU was sending 3 full busses of students, but there weren't any signs of those 3 bus loads of KU students. There were hardly any KU fans there at all.

If there were 3 bus loads of students, then how would that be the quivalent of 2 gamedays? That would probably be an extra 300 people.

6,000 students with premium seating makes for great tv and atmosphere but terrible revenue.

Their student tickets are far from cheap. If I remember right, theirs on the cheapest level were $175, and you have to pay more to get tickets to get into Bramlage earlier. They made our tickets look cheap, I do know that.

That and when you have a $60,000,000 budget for example, 6,000 tickets to student at a difference of $50 compared to what you'd get from adults is only $300,000...

If ISU can bring 4 buses to Lincoln to watch the (2) worst teams in the Big 12 play, I would hope we could easily surpass what ever K-State vs KU did.

CA took 5 to Lincoln my freshman year (2007-2008).
4 to Columbia last year.
4 to Lincoln this year.

Also gotta remember Nebraska pretty much gives away their tickets and it isn't exactly a rivalry game...

Those students are sitting in some of the hottest ticket spots. I know at KU you're talking about well over $100,000 donation every year just to move to lower midcourt. If KSU keeps winning, those students will be moved and they won't allow 6,000 seats to go for student prices because they will see a way of making more money on those seats.

I see the reason for moving some of the students. But, IMO, if having a crowd that is THAT much more excited because there are so many students there and the old folks feed off of the students, there has to be some point of equalization in there somewhere.

Think about it... better student seats, more students, less revenue from seating only = better overall atmosphere and more reason for other people to get excited about the program and donate.

Crappier student seats, less students, more revenue from seating = crappier overall atmosphere and some folks don't get blown away by the experience or the program and your bandwagon fans are fewer and less likely to donate.

In my PERSONAL opinion, any losses from seat revenue caused by placing students in the good seats can be GREATLY overcome by bandwagon support and alumni support spurred by a FANTASTIC atmosphere and wins.

Atmosphere + wins = FANS + MONEY.

K-State doesn't have enough rich fans who live close enough to Manhattan to buy more expensive tickets. And the student tickets are freakin' expensive.

I'm going up to the game in Ames this Saturday. Really excited to see the Hilton atmosphere.
