Anyone who can look at Shontrelle Johnson and say he's doesn't have what it takes to be one of the elite of the league is a moron. Besides that, Ubben doesn't even know how to pronounce his own name. I've known some Ubbens and they all pronounced it YOU-ben, not Uhhh-ben.

RE: None of this "using actual games as auditions" crap.

I hear what you're saying,,,,,but I think we will see Tiller for UNI at the start. I think Rhoads is going to "work Jantz in". I think most people believe Jantz will be the eventual QB.

Coach Rhoads is big on team attitude and loyalty. He is going to make sure Tiller does not feel slighted. Additionally, (and no small matter) it is a long season. Unrealistic to think that ONE ISU QB will play the entire season without injury.[/QUOTE]

I don't find it unrealistic that we could have one QB start all year. Teams do it all the time. Sure you have an insurance policy just in case, but you don't go in assuming your QB is going to get hurt.

I don't understand how people who have ever seen Tiller play think he could be a good passer for us.

IMO, Jantz has to outperform Tiller to get the starting nod versus UNI. If it is a tie then Tiller will get the nod. And that would be common sense since Tiller has started for ISU before. Unless Tiller clearly separates himself from Jantz then at the very least Jantz will get some snaps and a few drives. And I really wouldn't count out Barnett completely either.

IMO, the ceiling is a bit higher for Jantz and Barnett over Tiller. But this is college football and whoever leads the teams to points will get the job. I actually think that both Tiller and Jantz bring a strong rushing threat to the table. And this could cause a lot of problems for opposing teams. We definitely need more consistency from our receivers.

I think it is the opposite. If a guy who has been here for less than a year is as good as a guy who has been in the system for a few years with a few starts, start the guy who has pulled even in such a short amount of time. Alas, it's not our decision to make though.

There won't be any "working in." Someone will be named the starter and if they are good, they will stay there. If they are ******, they will be benched.

I don't understand how people who have never seen Jantz play in the B12 can think he is automatically a better option than Tiller.

Yeah, Im not a Ubben fan at all. I usually get ripped for that, but just my opinion.

Because we've seen Tiller play in the Big XII and we know we need a better option to win. It's more wishful thinking/praying that Jantz is better than thinking it.

Tiller played a few games last year as AA's replacement when he got hurt. Maybe the staff brought in Jantz as more of an insurance policy in case Tiller (another running QB) got banged up.

Not saying that is the case, just saying it is a possibility and doesn't necessarily mean that Jantz will be THE guy v UNI.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a feeling the QB's will be running a lot and we will want to open up the playbook. It's easier to do when you know you have at least one or two back ups capable waiting in the wings.

Exactly what I was going to say. We hope Jantz is better because that plain and simple gives us improvement at a critical position and a better chance to win.
